One would assume all nurses would need first aid and cpr training for their roles. Dunno the legalities on it but your sister can definitely claim the cost of her certificates through her tax return.

I’ve been out of the industry for a while now but used to work in management in aged care facilities and have been through accreditation multiple times.

The correct organisation to speak to is the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. All aged care facilities are subject to accreditation and spot checks, and they must demonstrate adequate record keeping of staff qualifications, training and AHPRA registrations, etc. I can’t remember if first aid and CPR certificates are specified as mandatory.

I think itÔÇÖs employer dependent. I work as a RN in a tertiary hospital. The hospital ensures we stay up to date with in-house yearly mandatory assessments that include CPR. I would assume that if your employer does not do this, then it could fall on the employee to maintain skills. There would surely be something in the work contract relating to this. But also considering itÔÇÖs the ages care sector, I wouldnÔÇÖt be surprised if the employer is just being lazy. And when the time comes they would throw their employees to the wolves.

A decent aged care facility would require it & would pay for it. But as long as they have RNs on duty (who would need to have it) it would be theoretically sufficient.
