I had to break this habit and the best way I did it was by making dinners with enough for leftovers. Its a boring life, but I’d eat for lunch the same thing I had the night before. As long as I do that, I’m golden.
I have friends who meal prepped every Sunday, but they’d spend hours each Sunday doing it. Not for me. I also have friends who make lunch every morning. I’m usually rushing out the door. The dinner/leftovers was the only way it worked.
Eventually I stopped wanting to eat out. Saved me money and was insanely healthier.

If your self-regulation isn’t there yet then use her to keep you accountable. Put up a whiteboard and track your weekly junk food spend on it so that you have to confront it visually every day and week.
It’s funny but i use the “coffee diet”. I get a large coffee and put 1/2 and 1/2 in it. The caffeine and fat help you avoid eating 🙂 and i am super productive the rest of the day at work
Put the money you ‘save’ by not eating out in a separate account. Every day you don’t eat out put $5 in the fund. When you do eat out the money has to get transferred back out of that fund to cover whatever you spend.
I find money that I have set aside like this much harder to spend.
You might give yourself a cash allowance— however much you budget to spend on non-home cooked food goes into the wallet. Now every time you want to buy something you have to watch your cash supply dwindle, and you can also physically earmark/paperclip some of the money for date night to remind yourself why you can’t spend it.
If you lack the self control to not eat out asking Reddit is not going to help you
I solved this by getting a job in the middle of nowhere with nothing closer than a 10min drive.
When I want something unnecessary I say I can have it if I go x amount of days with no fast /resteraunt food. Not forever. Like new watch 14 days. I mark it on the calendar.
Sometimes I find better deals in the meantime, or lose my taste for greasy fries.
It takes 28 days to make a habit.

Your health is a good reason to cut back on the fast food or going out to eat eat indulgences and it’s because of the oils they use they use vegetable or canola oil which have been proven to have an adverse effect on our health long-term…
Learn to cook and do meal prep. You can make good food for a fraction of the cost
Allow yourself one day a week to eat out. That will make it more special and give you something to look forward to.
Take the money you save by eating your packed lunch and put it in a special place like a piggy bank. At the end of the month you will be so proud of how much you saved.
My only food option at work is the cafeteria but they have pretty good food. I’ll pick one day to eat whatever sounds good in the cafe and I plan it out in advance. Usually based on the weekly specials but it could also be a regular thing they have. It’s easier to eat my packed lunch when I know there’s a day I can get something delicious and bad for me. And easier to pack lunch if I only need to do it for 3-4 days
