## Issue with Relocating to Another Country in the EU

Hello lawyers of reddit / general lifehack people:

I am currently facing a problem with relocating to another country in the EU from Germany. I recently moved in with my girlfriend in Hungary, and I am working remotely for a German company. They are now requesting me to register in Hungary to avoid facing charges. Additionally, they have mentioned that if I get promoted again within a year or so, they would want me to come back to Germany.

As a EU citizen residing in Hungary for over 90 days you have to register as a resident.

    More information here: [https://enterhungary.gov.hu/eh/tajekoztato/en/EGTENG1](https://enterhungary.gov.hu/eh/tajekoztato/en/EGTENG1)

You would be de-registering for Germany (as you can only be resident in one country at a time), but once you go back you become resident again and get your social security/healthcare back.

You register in Hungary, you pay your taxes in Hungary. You then move back to Germany and you start to pay taxes in Germany. Social Security of both countries will workout your payments. Nothing to see here

The country where you are socially insured is not necessarily the country where you are living. What matters is where you or your employer pay social security contributions, not where your registered address is. You should let your employer, or a tax advisor, check whether you can still be socially insured in Germany (also very important for the employer to know this, as they probably pay social insurance contributions in Germany!)
