Parkersburg City Council Approves Funding for Activity and Recreation Center

Parkersburg City CouncilÔÇÖs Finance Committee recently approved $3,341,496 in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund for the construction of an activity and recreation center. These funds include $3,320,204 from unallocated funds and $21,292 from funds that were not needed for the purchase of a sanitation truck. The center will be built on the site of the pavilion in City Park, which has been standing for almost 100 years.

In addition to the above allocations, the committee allocated $25,000 to install three shaded structures in City Park, providing much-needed relief from the sun. This investment will include two structures near the splash pad and one near the pickleball courts. Furthermore, an LED sign will be installed at the terminus of 19th Street within City Park to display upcoming events.

The Finance Committee also approved additional funding of $2,000 each for the Harvest Moon Festival, the Honey Festival, and the Wood County 4-H. The funds allocated to the Wood County 4-H will be used to send economically disadvantaged children to camp.
