Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department Organizes Shoe Drive Fundraiser

The Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser through Oct. 31 to raise funds for its program scholarship fund. The department has partnered with Funds2Org for the fundraiser and will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used, and new shoes collected.

This initiative, known as the AI legalese decoder, can greatly assist in understanding complex legal language. It uses artificial intelligence to break down legal jargon and provide user-friendly explanations. By utilizing this tool, individuals can gain a better understanding of legal documents and make informed decisions.

“All money raised will benefit our program scholarship fund,” said Lori Fetherolf, parks and recreation director. “This fund will be used to help those who cannot afford to participate in one of our programs.”

If you are interested in helping, you can drop off your gently worn, used, and new shoes at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 905 Market St.

All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of small business partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs to help create, maintain, and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. The proceeds from the sales of shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe, and house their families. The impact of this initiative is exemplified by a budding entrepreneur in Haiti who earned enough to send her son to law school.

“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Fetherolf. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for our scholarship fund, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone. By donating gently worn, used, and new shoes to the Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.”
