## Property and Offender Details

### Property Description:
My property is an industrial warehouse located in California.

### Offender Description:
The offender is a dumpster diver man with unleashed dogs who trespasses on my property at 2AM.

He disregards two “private property / no trespassing” signs and ventures to the deepest part of the property. Upon arrival, he releases his dogs, enters the dumpster corral, and scatters garbage in search of recyclables for a duration of 2 hours.

During this time, my security cameras capture footage of our cats fleeing from his unleashed pitbulls.

### Verbal Confrontation:
While the confrontation with the offender was verbal only, his behavior was hostile. He seemed to believe that he had the right to ignore all directives and return to the property at will.

### Available Resources:
In case of need, I have guns, flashlights, baseball bats, and security cameras readily available on the property.

Call the cops have him trespassed? Basic step 1.

  • Silaquix

First go ahead and call the cops before the guy comes back. Share the footage with them and explain you want this guy trespassed and he’s not welcome on your property.

If he does come back immediately call the cops reporting it and then defend against the dogs if needed.

Try to keep the cats inside as best you can until the issue is resolved.

  • oddmanguy1

if you have footage of him sicking the dogs on your cats have him charged with animal cruelty. he might even have his dogs taken away. call the cops and have him charged with trespass. sue him if you can for the mess he makes. get a restraining order so he is not allowed near you or your business.

    good luck

Secure the driveway he is coming thru

  • Dangerous-Bathroom84

    Put padlocks on your dumpsters?

  • CaptainSloth269

Tyre spikes on driveway and dog traps? That’s what I’d consider but that’s me.

  • PantasticUnicorn

    Are your cats okay?

  • Electronic_Common931

jfc you haven’t even called the police or mitigated any barriers to entering your property or securing/locking your dumpsters and your first action is to come to reddit to figure out an ethical way to kill dogs.

  • silask93

I mean id call the cops first but if he comes back before they do anything and hes endangering your cats then id do whatever i felt was okay, family comes first, furred, feathered or otherwise

  • rocketmn69_

Get some bird bangers.(they are harmless and just make noise, they use them in orchards and vineyards to scare the birds away)Set them up near the dumpster. When he shows up again, tell him to get the hell off the property and don’t come back.
If he argues, just say, “don’t say that I didn’t warn you”
Then set off 1 of the bangers.. wait a bit and yell get out of here and set off another. He’ll get the message. Best of all it’s not illegal and no one is threatened.

  • Fantastic_Lady225

Info: Does this dude come out every night or just once a week? Is trash pickup every night or just once a week?

  • Flat-Story-7079

You are allowed to trespass him, which you need to do the minute he drives onto the property. Do it repeatedly as needed. Do not harm him or his animals. This is a straight up cost benefit situation. Any action you take against him or his animals that is beyond calling LEOs and working through the CJ system will result in greater cost and time.

  • 2015juniper

Keep the cats inside while you sent livetraps for the dogs and call the police to handle matters.

  • Hypnowolfproductions

Call police and trespass him. Call animal control for animal abuse and unleashed animals on your property. For him to allow his dogs to attack another animal will have his dogs declared dangerous and removed from his care. He has already destroyed those dogs. He needs jail for the animal abuse he caused.

  • Lanky-Peak-2222

California Is shit when it comes to defending your property rights. Good luck.

  • Kaleria84

California law – “Use reasonable force to reject someone who is unlawfully entering or occupying their property. This includes both verbal command and physical force, as long as the force used is not excessive or unreasonable under the circumstances. However, property owners are not allowed to use force intended to cause serious bodily injury or death.”

Pets are considered property and CA does not allow killing pets to protect property, so you can’t kill their dogs for chasing your cats.

In short, drop the killer fantasies you have and deal with it through the cops.

  • Exciting-Parfait-776

Does California allow you to do a citizens arrest and detain him until the cops show up?

  • WanderingMushroomMan

In cali he may have squatters rights by now 😂

  • FactsAreSerious

Keep the cats inside. At all times. If you can’t, bring them to a shelter and let someone else take better care of them.

  • Usual-Archer-916

Do you have a way to lock up your dumpsters or fence them?

  • Holdmywhiskeyhun

    Noam them

  • jesslangridge

This sounds like a SSS….. I’d happily kill any dogs threatening my other animals. I’m also in Texas where killing dogs that are on your property is 100% legal. Have you called law enforcement/animal control? I’m assuming they’ll tell you it’s not their responsibility (🙄). Can you booby trap the driveway? Edit: I was reminded this is not legal, don’t booby trap anything. Caltrops are probably out of the question but chunks of hardened mesquite and cactus (especially those with longer, tougher thorns) might pop his tires often enough to where it’s not worth his time to mess with your stuff. Can you put locks on the dumpsters? And if you’re there you can pepper gel the dogs/taze them/wasp spray. Best of luck. No kitty deserves to be ripped to shreds on their own property 😢

  • Why_Lord_Just_Why

No attorney can give you personal legal advice on Reddit. You say this person is a “dumpster driver man.” Is he there on business? In a company vehicle? The first thing I would suggest is that you keep your cats inside and safe for awhile until this is sorted out. If he is working when he does this, report it to his employer. Do what you can to better secure your property if you don’t contract with these people. As a *VERY GENERAL* piece of information, California is apparently not a “stand your ground” state, if that’s what you’re asking. It does, in limited situations, accept the Castle Doctrine as a defense. But no one wants to be a defendant. Speak to a local attorney and show your video and get personal advice.

Edit: Thanks to those who pointed out I misread “diver” for “driver,” thinking this guy worked for a garbage pickup service. The basics of what I said are still true, though. You can’t rely on getting specific legal advice via Reddit. Secure your property as best you can. Your garbage service may have ideas to better secure the dumpster. Keep your cats as safe as you can – if you have them for pest control, this could include providing somewhere to run and hide where the dogs can’t reach, either high up or with a small opening, or both. Finally talk to a local attorney. They can give you much more specific advice.

    Bat and a hole

  • wildgoose2000

In normal states you are allowed to meet force with a corresponding level of force to protect yourself or others. That being said I worry about using force and how the state of California will view.

  • SeniorCitizenRespect

    Shoot the dogs

My brother in law calls them “shit bills”

That is very uncouth but they are horrible dogs

  • ManyUnderstanding950

    Just poison the dogs

  • naoihe

Your cats should be kept inside. It’s not opinion that indoor cats live longer. You can protect them from dogs, poison, predators (like coyotes, who eat plenty of pet cats), cars, injuries, and illnesses. You can also eliminate any impact your cats have on local wildlife. Although, of course, if you feel that it’s worth it to keep letting them roam outside when you know a neighbor wants to kill them (among the other listed dangers) is your decision.

  • Abe_Rudda

    Do love a good doormat

  • KidenStormsoarer

first, go to the police and have him criminally trespassed for illegal entry, theft, and animal cruelty. if the cops don’t deal with him, california is a stand your ground state. the dogs are charging, you put them down. the man tries to get physical, you put him down. the ONLY thing you tell the cops is that you were at fear for your life and require your lawyer. hell, call your lawyer before you call the cops.

  • Recipreocity

Beat down time !, ask him three times then time for a ground and pound …spray the dogs first you can buy the stuff the post office uses !,
