Google Increases Maximum Price on Play Store Apps

Almost 8 years later, Google has increased the maximum price on Play Store apps. The maximum price for the apps on the app store has gone up by two to three times in almost all regions, including India, where Google offers app purchases on the Play Store.

What’s the new limit for apps on Play Store

At the Google I/O 2024, Google allowed developers to price their apps much higher than the set limit. And, now, the company has updated the support page — Supported locations for distribution to Google Play users — with new price limits.

According to the support page, developers can now price their apps in India as high as Rs 84,000. The limit earlier was Rs 30,000 which was updated back in 2015.

And, this is not just in India. Google has updated the maximum limit for apps in almost every region, as mentioned above. In US, users can now price their apps up to $999.99 starting from 99 cents.

Will developers price their apps that high?
Well, not many developers price their apps that high. Even when the price limit was Rs 30,000, only a few apps were available that touched the maximum limit. With the increased price limit, there’s a possibility that apps may cost relatively more, but reaching Rs 84,000 is something only a few will manage. Some apps may sell in-app purchases or subscriptions closer to the maximum limit.

What’s in it for Google

With an increased price limit, Google will be able to make more money. How? Well, Google asks 15% platform charge of the total revenue till the first million dollars, collected over a year. However, once a developer crosses that limit, Google starts charging a 30% platform fee. With developers charging more for their apps, they will manage to reach the million-dollar mark soon and hence Google will manage to make more money.
