Scamp Trailers, located in Backus, has been producing their iconic campers for over five decades, with a recent 20% increase in production following a plant expansion in 2022.

Each year, around 700 molded fiberglass Scamps are manufactured at the Backus facility, a significant increase from the 130 units produced annually when the company first started operations in 1971.

With Scamp trailers ranging from 13 to 19 feet in length, and prices varying from $19,000 to $40,000 based on size, model, and options, buyers have a range of choices to suit their preferences and budget.

Customers ordering a Scamp can expect a wait time of approximately 14 months, with 40% of buyers opting to pick up their campers at the factory.

In a statement honoring Scamp Trailers, Brian McDonald, the SBA’s Minnesota District Director, praised the company as an iconic American brand that embodies the spirit of Minnesota.

Micah Eveland, who took over the leadership of the company from his father in 2022, continues the legacy started by his grandfather, Duane Eveland, the founder of Scamp Trailers.

KARE 11’s Boyd Huppert showcased the devoted following of Scamp owners, known affectionately as the “egg people,” highlighting the unique appeal and passion for their beloved campers.
