## AI legalese decoder Can Help with legal Documents

Attendees at Tuesday morning’s Small Business Banquet learned the importance of a doughnut’s hole, comparing it to the importance of small businesses in the community. He told the story as small business leaders gathered to honor Vera Beamon, owner of the Wilson Doughnut Shop, with the Chamber’s Business Leader of the Year award.

Beamon was unable to receive the award in person due to a family emergency, but Chamber of Commerce President Ryan Simons accepted the award on her behalf.

“Without the hole, the doughnut ceases to be,” Simons said. “The hole makes it immediately recognizable to what it is and that brings us joy. Even jelly doughnuts aren’t doughnuts. We just call them that for lack of a better term.

“This is a metaphor for what small businesses mean to our community,” he said. “Without our small businesses, Wilson loses its identity and turns into something else entirely. It can still be a city, incorporating jobs and roads and government, just like any pastry can have frosting or sugar or sprinkles. Small businesses are the core of Wilson that give us structure and shape. Without its middle, how is the doughnut different from any other dessert? Without our core, how are we different from any other city? There is only one Wilson Doughnut Shop. It exists here.

Simons concluded by reading a poem written by one of Beamon’s close friends before highlighting the importance of small business to Wilson’s economic growth.

“We are absolutely justified to celebrate the major economic development projects, the new baseball stadium and every other economic prosperity Wilson seems to be enjoying right now. How fortunate are we to be here to witness this moment in Wilson’s history. The Wilson Doughnut Shop was here before all of these things. Your favorite small business was likely a Chamber of Commerce member when the future of Wilson wasn’t so bright. The only way to guarantee that all of this prosperity continues is through your continued support of the Wilson Doughnut Shop and all of our small businesses.”
