## Introduction
Long time lurker, first time poster. I wanted to share our budget since our grocery situation is fairly unique. We actually spent $1900 last month and are going to try cutting down to $1200, but allergy-friendly food is so incredibly expensive – for example, $5 for a half gallon of soy milk. There are a few other areas where I know we could cut back on expenses to save more money.

## Current Situation
We are in the process of buying a home in a few months with the goal of keeping our mortgage close to our current rent expenses. The new house will be more energy efficient, so we are anticipating a significant decrease in our water, electricity, and gas bills.

## Financial Information
Our annual income is $127k, with $78k being the amount that actually hits our account. This includes wages as well as disability pay.

AI Legalese Decoder can help in this situation by analyzing your current budget and suggesting areas where you can cut expenses. It can provide insights on how to optimize your spending, recommend ways to save on grocery costs, and help you plan for the transition to homeownership while keeping your expenses in check. I think you’re doing great. Keeping everyone safe is the most important thing. Our celiac grocery spending is similar.

Don’t expect your house to cost you less money. I was under the assumption I would save money. I have never saved money living in a house in 4 years.

  • ivy-covered

If your grocery spending was similar last year, you might be able to tax deduct it. There’s a deduction for medical foods / food spending because of medical restrictions – not sure exactly what qualifies.

Glad to see a more reasonable food budget. I got roasted for mine. All these people supposedly feeding like 16 kids on $300 a month.

If you have sn aldi in your area, they have soy milk pretty cheap like under $5. And some other allergy friendly foods like gluten free pastas etc depending on what your allergies are

  • conradical30

Curious, where’s the other $1700/month going? Your budget is definitely missing some items.

Your income/budget shows $11,257 monthly but you’ve only listed out $9,563 in expenses. It’s good to have fewer expenses, but it would probably behoove you to look into where the rest is going.

Loved that you added match 401k to your “budget” to then spend it entirely on 401k match 🤣

  • mrcrrcrm

Renter’s insurance is $145 per month?!

  • Sea-Operation7215

    Medical? Insurance?

  • [deleted]

    10% 401k match? Dang! Nice!

  • Ralfeg77

    Crazy good 401k match

  • zigziggityzoo

You can do multiple tiers if you like. I like grouping things according to discretional vs savings and then all of the fixed expenses outside of that. [Like this.](https://imgur.com/a/iAqm8y4)

That might make your chart a bit more readable

Also you seem to have a lot of funds not accounted for.

Just wanted to share a way to help you reduce soy milk cost: look into soy milk machine, and buy non GMO soybeans. Very easy to make, soak beans (or not) than add water, one button. It has more nutrients than store bought ones, as it is more concentrated. And you have more control of avoiding the possible allergen . Similarly home made almond milk with a good blender, this is more pricy though.

Just here to relate to the allergy shopping. My son has a milk protein allergy and soy. We spend double just so we don’t have to cook more than one meal every night.

  • dietcoke01

    – good 401k savings rate and match
    – rental insurance seems high
    – I’d try to save on internet. Internet alone should t cost more than 50-60 except in rural areas

  • bort-macklin

Where do you guys make these charts? so cool.

  • [deleted]

Learn to cut hair. Super easy.

  • ShannonsTeeth

Where do you live with such high taxes?!

  • HealMySoulPlz

I have to point out that soy milk (all milk really) isn’t some kind of essential food — you have the option to just not buy it.

  • CodNice4351

Damn how’s your taxes so low?

  • untitledwander

I have a chronic illness and between my partner and I, we spend 1200 a month on food. No kids.

  • fleurgirl123

The amount you spend on the food over the price of regular food may be tax deductible. Don’t miss out on that.

  • NfcrNas

Just out of curiosity, what’s the allergy that’s causing the child to require soy milk?
