## Planning Investments as an EU Passport Holder Studying Abroad in the Netherlands

Hello everyone, I am a EU passport holder currently studying abroad in the Netherlands. I have 1 year left of my studies but will be moving to Dubai already this summer and plan to stay there for a couple of years working. As my studies are coming to an end and I have some cash available, I want to start seriously investing.

With the AI Legalese Decoder, we can help simplify complex legal documents and contracts, making it easier for EU passport holders studying abroad like you to navigate legal aspects of investing in different countries, such as understanding the implications of moving to Dubai for work on your investments.

## Exploring Investment Options and Strategies for Future Moves

Now I am a total newbie to investing, sorry in advance if I this question has been answered before. Basically I have about €5k available, I was wondering whether it would be better to invest in a European broker (I have a Degiro account already but have never used it) or maybe open one with IB since I have read it is good for expats/nomads. An important detail is that I plan to move around a bit in my future, go to Asia, maybe back to Europe, move again, etc. So I’m not sure if the conversion/change of currency will be a problem, since I’ll be earning in different currencies.

The AI Legalese Decoder can assist in understanding the legal implications of investing with different brokers in various countries, helping you make an informed decision on where to invest your €5k as an EU passport holder studying abroad and planning to move around frequently.

## Strategic Approach to Investing: Lump Sum vs. Diversification

Also my second question would be, when I start investing, would it be of advantage to dump the 5k at once in an index fund such as S&P500 or VTSAX, or buy little by little, or diversify with different funds?

With the AI Legalese Decoder, you can easily comprehend legal terms related to investment strategies such as lump sum investing, gradual investment, and diversification, helping you make informed decisions on how to best allocate your €5k for optimal returns as you embark on your investing journey.

Man, you are moving thousands of kilometers away, to a high cost country. Save those 5K for emergencies, and do not start investing until you can afford a 1-way ticket home, on top of 6 months of expenses.

nothing bad will ever happen to you, but make sure you are covered very well in case it does, please

Go with Interactive Brokers, best broker when living globally. Make sure to buy the Irish Domiciled ETFs for tax reasons, VTSAX is out of the question as American based (not tax efficient). For currency conversion once you have ~$10k on Wio the account is free, you have 5% savings rate, and you can convert to USD for AED3.675 then send to IBKR for just below $16 and convert there to Euro directly on the currency market. Once there join the SimplyFI group, very good budget and retirement planning advice over there, in line with the Boglehead approach.
