I thoroughly enjoyed reading the recent article about Mountain State Business College. It brought back fond memories of a time when the school played a significant role in our community, a fact that may have been overlooked by the reporter.

Many young men returning from military service availed themselves of the opportunity to further their education by enrolling in accounting and business classes at Mountain State. The G.I. Bill helped pave the way for their successful careers.

Similarly, young women from rural areas found a place to learn valuable skills like typing and shorthand at the college. Some of them even lived with local families, trading help with childcare and household chores for a place to stay.

Over time, these graduates went on to achieve great success in various industries, climbing the ranks at banks, businesses, and agencies, demonstrating the impact of their education.

I have vivid memories of riding my bicycle around the beautiful red brick building of the college with a friend, listening to the rhythm of typewriters echoing from the typing class.

Let us take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the significant contributions made by Mountain State College and its founder to our region and beyond during its heyday.
