### Issue with Low Fee Gold Credit Card from Comm bank

Hello, I have a low fee gold credit Card with Comm bank and I use it overseas. The card perk is that I don’t get charged international transaction fees.

I recently look at my charges, and I’ve been getting charged international transaction fees since Feb.

Are they allowed to change this? I’ve been using it a lot overseas so it’s quite a bit of money.

I’ve sent them a message a couple hours ago and I am awaiting there response.

I also looked online and new application arnt allowed to even get that card anymore.

I think I’ve had it for two or three years.

Anyone have any thoughts?

If you specifically need a credit card then bankwest offers a no fee card with 0 international fees. Otherwise if a regular transaction account is fine for you then ubank offers a debit card with no transaction fees

As per the fees and charges doc from March they charge 3.5% except on Ultimate and Smart Awards and Neo cards.

You would have received an email/Letter/App Notification of changes to the terms and conditions/Fees and charges in December of January if these came into effect in March.

The same thing happened to me and I messaged the bank for details.

They announced the change in a bank statement. I can’t remember the month now but I think it was the December one? It’s not easily visible in the statement though. I couldn’t see it with a quick scroll and had to use search. They refunded my international transaction fee for the transaction I was asking about but said that any future transactions will come with fees. I think they refunded that specific fee only because they gave me incorrect info first and had to transfer me to a different support agent.

There was no other notification (that I know of or that they told me about) other than one sentence in one month’s statement.

I have to change my credit card type to avoid fees.

Oh no, they started charging me too now. That was the main thing keeping me using this card over others. Time to start shopping around.

    This happened to me too!
I called up and fhey refunded my Feb transaction fee, then they gave me a few hundred off my credit card invoice, after I threatened to report them to AFCA for the incredibly poor notice they provided.

I highly recommend escalating it, their sentence in December notice ab transaction fees being repealed is not in line with adequate notice as per the Narional Credit Code.

Same here. Was overseas in Canada when the charges started appearing. I check my account every few days so don’t read my statements.

Rang Commbank and explained the situation. They offered to refund me the fees without me having to ask and I had the fees taken off two days later. They’re still bastards for changing the terms and conditions for an existing product though. They’re not exactly short of money with the profits they make 😡

Call and ask, I did this and they reversed the charges.

I recently got a Macquarie Debit card just coz it said No Int’l Transaction Fees. But it also said that although the bank won’t charge you anything, the seller’s bank or the seller themselves might charge something which will show up on your account as such. Best to clarify with CommBank though and maybe also look into a different option for International Transaction cards – another example for it is the Bendigo Credit Card

Is the deal that CommBank won’t charge international fees or that you don’t pay any international fees at all?

You might be copping fees from the bank on the international end.

I’d still contact CommBank though, they might be able to tell you banks they have agreements with.

Bendigo Ready card, no rewards but free int txs and no annual fee.

I’ve been using a Macquarie for my day to day for ages, but also have a 28 degrees.

I opened a Wise account. It’s very good for international travel.
You transfer money from your account to your wise account. Lowest international fees and best exchange rates.

    Have a look at it
