This is to discourage frequent instances of clients not attending their classes. This measure is in place to manage our fully booked classes and waitlists effectively, ensuring that cancellations open up opportunities for those on the waitlist.

Spaces in classes are limited.
In this case OP has taken a ÔÇ£cheapÔÇØ $10 promo position which could have instead been utilized by an existing full fee paying customer.
The $10 positions are loss-leaders, put out there to try and get future recurring business.
As a private business it is ultimately up to them to determine their T&Cs.

Some classes, particularly in smaller studios, may have no-show fees in place because they can only fit X amount of people. If people don’t turn up the class ends up empty AND others who did want to go miss out. The fee makes sure people either don’t book if unsure, of cancel in advance so another can take the spot.
Get the folks at r/auslegal to offer their advice. They can surely quote the section off the ACCC website to throw at them.

My wife has a weekly membership for unlimited Pilates, but if she books in and doesn’t show there’s a $15 penalty because she’s taken someone else’s potential spot. Seems reasonable to me if it’s in demand. I wouldn’t pay it for a one off class personally.

You can try to dispute and sever your relationship with them / get blacklisted as you wish.
The terms are almost readily available everywhere. On company websites and almost certainly on the confirmation email you receive you make a booking.
Please do your own research. Standard practice.
