    Freeze your credit reports. Check your credit reports for any others that may have gone through. Check all financial statements. Stay vigilant.

    Make sure you don’t give any personal info if they called you. Call them back at their publicly available phone number

    Freeze your credit reports (don’t lock them, freeze them). Also keep track of your unlock pins.

    You do not want this to go further. I’ve dealt with it, caught it in time, and it was still a tremendous pain in the ass to deal with.

    I see a lot of people saying to freeze the bureaus and that is a good idea, but also should place a fraud alert with the bureaus. This let’s the bureaus know there is a concern about ID theft and it requires banks to call the phone number that is put on file (ie call you to verify it was you) before they are able to extend any credit. I also strongly suggest to pull your credit reports and make sure they are accurate and that there are not any other accounts you do not recognize.

    Lock your credit with all 3 agencies.

    I keep mine permanently frozen and can’t risk scammers with all these data breaches just keep it frozen until you decide to use it and contest anything they don’t look right on your credit . Make sure to setup two factor authentication on the accounts you have and make sure to setup additional verification for your bank especially.

    Freeze your credit file at the 3 major credit bureaus.

    Sounds like your info couldÔÇÖve been compromised. These might be good steps:

    * Check your credit reports for unusual activity or unrecognized accounts. Continue to check them regularly, as well as your financial statements.

    * Set up accounts at each credit bureau, freeze your credit files, and add fraud alerts. Do the same with the fourth bureau, Innovis.

    * Change your financial accountsÔÇÖ passwords so theyÔÇÖre solid and hard to figure out. Add 2FA to your accounts. Make sure your email is secure too.

    * Set up alerts for your financial accounts if possible for logins, spending, charges, transfers, asset transfers, etc.

    * Create an IRS account and set up an IP PIN to use for your tax returns.

    * Create an SSA account.

    * Freeze your SSN for USCIS e-verify.

    * Set up identity monitoring.

    * ThereÔÇÖs also a bureau that some utilities use, where you can freeze your file or add a flag. I donÔÇÖt remember the name of it though.

    * Notify your financial institutions.

    * Make sure your account with your phone provider is locked down with a solid password, 2FA, and device/line transfer is locked.

    * DonÔÇÖt fall for phishing emails or scam calls, especially if theyÔÇÖre incoming. Call your institutionÔÇÖs number yourself.

    Keep in mind that freezes will help make identity theft with your information harder, but youÔÇÖll need to temporarily unfreeze some of these to do certain things, like applying for credit.

    Are you sure the phone call wasnÔÇÖt the scam?
