## Beneficiary of an Inherited IRA with Primerica

Hi. My dad recently passed away and named me as the beneficiary of his IRA with Primerica. I have been trying to claim the funds for the past three months, but have been encountering obstacles along the way. Despite providing all the necessary documents, I have been receiving conflicting information from different representatives at Primerica.

Recently, they asked me to provide the fund account number, which I do not have access to because my dad has passed away. I spoke to the individual who helped set up the account for my dad, and he mentioned that all records are usually destroyed once the account holder dies. This has left me in a difficult position, as I am unable to access statements or any other documentation that may contain the required number.

File a complaint with FINRA. They regulate brokers. Don’t write a whole essay, just stick to simple facts.

“My father, XYZ died on XXXXX. He had an IRA at Primerica (account #XXXX if you know it). Despite providing Primerica with a copy of the death certificate and all requested information I cannot get them to process the payment to me as beneficiary. I have called X times and every time I get the run around.” Even better if you can list specific dates/times you called to show you’ve called repeatedly.

The records are not destroyed when someone dies. Is there an office you can walk into? Best case would be the one that your father would have worked with. You are asking about a fund number. This is an interesting distinction b/c generally the IRA account would hold the investments (Funds, etc) and you would not need that. Why are you asking for this specifically?

There is possibly a third party involved here that you need to contact. For example the investment could be held with a fund company directly, such as American Funds. If you figure out what fund company may be involved you will likely be able to make some progress.

Update: I called my local office who treated me like shit, but are going to send out the packet I need to fill out. I’ve been calling for 3 months but am now being sent the packet, hopefully. Stay tuned I guess. Give it up for fucking Primerica.

Are you sure you’re the beneficiary? How do you know?

If you’re not, that’d be why.
