## AI Legalese Decoder: Helping Navigate Complex Legal Situations

My dad’s arrest two years ago due to an internet sting has had a lasting impact on our family. He struggled with a sex addiction, predominantly seeking out relationships with women his age through adult dating sites. Despite this, he never engaged with any illicit content involving minors. Unfortunately, in one particular instance, he unknowingly connected with an undercover officer posing as a teenage girl. Despite the officer’s portrayal of being an older woman in her profile photo, my dad was ultimately arrested due to a misunderstanding regarding the girl’s age. The prolonged legal process, spanning two years post-arrest, ultimately resulted in my dad being added to the registry, severely limiting his employment opportunities.

The repercussions of this arrest have been devastating, impacting not only my dad’s livelihood but also my own aspirations. The unjust nature of the sting operation leaves me questioning its constitutionality and whether my dad truly belongs on the registry. As I navigate this challenging situation, the AI Legalese Decoder offers a valuable resource in deciphering complex legal terms and processes, providing insight and clarity that will aid in understanding and potentially challenging the circumstances surrounding my dad’s case. The registry is filled with good people, misguided intentions, one time mistakes, misled individuals, and ruined lives. Until we come together and collectively fight it as a unified force we will continue to follow society’s perspective and assume everyone on there is bad but my person.

What landed your dad on the registry os almost 100% identical to how I ended up on it. But….i still showed up’s and so did your dad.

I sympathize with him, and you. But our choices got us here. Right or wrong, we played the game, knowing the rules and lost.

We can only rebuild. I have been and so will your dad. Because he has people (just like you) who love him and know who he really is, regardless of the poor choices we made.

You’ll get married and have kids, and your dad will be a great grandpa.

    >now I have to wait 10 years to get married and have kids

Can you explain this? Why do you have to wait? I apologize is the answer is obvious but I just woke up and got on reddit

He fits the registry just fine. And don’t take that the wrong way. There are close to a million people on the registry nationwide. Most do not “fit” what the registry was all hailed to be for by politicians and the pitchfork public.

Stupid choices have led us down this broken path. There are more men and women than you could could that are just like your Dad. They have lost everything and branded with the Scarlet Letter. For most of us the rest of our lives.

Nobody believes the absurdity of the list and all that it brings until unfortunately you have to live it. Be it the registrant or those close to him or her.

The stings are hailed as a way to get the monsters off the street….when most are just entrapment exercises endorsed and carried out by the government.

At least he has a light at the end of the tunnel….10 years…most are much more including lifetime.

I always wonder when I am older and cannot even remember my own name and cannot function on my own what danger will I really pose to have to continue to be on the list.

There is not this person or that person that “should” be on the list. The list should be abolished altogether. It has been proven not to enhance public safety but even could make it less safe…and although ruled as a civil type law is a life sentence to anyone who is put on it.

I saw a post on here that brought up a really good point: if you’re a millennial or younger, that means you grew up with technology like cell phones and social media and 80% of those people have certainly shared nudes of themselves when they were underage. That’ll land you on the sex offender list in most states for at least 20 years nowadays. 20% or 200K people on the registry committed their offenses when they were under 18 and that’s just a fraction of the approximate 80% of the people who have committed offenses that would land you on the list. People would say I’m arguing from the fringes but those who aren’t knowledgeable really don’t see how easily you can land on the registry and how the restrictions placed on you are basically the same whether you were caught at a happy ending massage parlor or if you were the head of a human trafficking ring. There are close to a million people on the registry now, which is still a relatively small number in a country of 340 million but how much is an acceptable number to have on the list that continues to grow? 2 million? 5? 10 million? 20? How large can this group of outcasts grow before the government thinks that’s the unemployment and homelessness it causes are not worth the illusion of safety and satisfaction of public shaming?

Just a sad case of someone who doesn’t belong on the registry don’t stop your life because of what happened to his you can still get married and have kids whenever you are ready

  • NedStevensSurvey2019

This sounds like you are in denial and also potentially not stating all of the facts

It doesn’t make sense that a cop would use a picture of an obviously older looking women and then only state the age once. If they did use an older picture in the profile they likely later on used the picture of a obviously younger looking person or they stated via message that profile picture wasn’t them and that they were really an underage woman several times.

Then if your dad truly thought she was joking, why would he report her profile? Reading between the lines it sounds as though he reported her profile but yet was still messaging her to meet. If this is what happened, my guess is he was doing it to provide himself some form of alibi if get gets caught.

Or are you saying that he reported other minors? Him reporting other minors doesn’t prove he is innocent in this case.

I posted this just recently kind of touching on sting operations:

    [https://www.reddit.com/r/SexOffenderSupport/comments/1aj7b7t/unusual_discussion_on_sting_techniques/](https://www.reddit.com/r/SexOffenderSupport/comments/1aj7b7t/unusual_discussion_on_sting_techniques/)

Sting operations are indeed constitutional. As far as I am aware, only 1 circuit acknowledges the outrageous governmental conduct defense. Entrapment does not typically apply here unless officials actually coerce you to commit a crime. A valid entrapment defense has two related elements: (1) government inducement of the crime, and (2) the defendant’s lack of predisposition to engage in the criminal conduct. Mathews v. United States, 485 U.S. 58, 63 (1988). Of the two elements, predisposition is by far the more important.

To be clear, the predisposition component does not mean that a person is not predisposed merely because they lacked knowledge of the age of the person. Rather, considering the totality of the circumstances, would a reasonable person believe that the person would have committed the crime without the police conduct in question. The facts you provided merely makes it questionable to the predisposition component. The fact that the age was given, regardless if your dad believe it was a joke, tells law enforcement officials that he could be predisposed to committing the crime.

I’m on the registry as a tier one for being caught texting an undercover pretending to be a teen, I am guilty of that and I’m in recovery, but it is just insane that for 15 years I cannot work toward a better life and that nowadays in our Justice system it’s easier to kill someone than be a sex crime individual!!! I have a masters plus education and I can tell you of about 4-6 jobs I could qualify in my county that is large!!

lmao keep huffing copium op, definitely holding stuff back. so he still decided to meet up with someone who apparently mentioned they’re underage but it’s ‘unconstitutional’? despite rule number 5, a bunch of you love to minimize the situation, dad is a pedophile <3
