## Lack of Clarity in the Process

I wasn’t sure how the process goes and I don’t want to invest all this time into something that doesn’t apply. It can be daunting to navigate through legal processes, especially when it involves complex issues like medical misdiagnosis.

## Inadequacy of Google Search Results

It’s pretty simple; just searching this on Google never gets the right results. The vast amount of information available online can often lead to confusion and misinformation, especially when trying to find specific legal resources.

## Misdiagnosis during Military Service

I was in the army back in 2011 and saw a psychiatrist while on active duty because I’ve always dealt with attention issues and depression. Being diagnosed with ADHD and given an Adderall script 13 years ago has significantly impacted my life. The struggles with mental health conditions have persisted, leading to a sense of constant battle against worsening symptoms.

## Discovery of Bipolar Disorder

Fast forward to now, I just found out that I am bipolar 1 after getting a second opinion from another provider. The realization came after experiencing a significant improvement in symptoms shortly after adjusting medication. This newfound clarity has shed light on the detrimental effects of misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment.

I also have BP1, but was diagnosed in the Navy and was told I could not reenlist, so I got out with an HD. Filed a claim a decade later and was told I should have been medically discharged with the BP diagnosis. Got 70% from my claim for BP1. It should help that they diagnosed you incorrectly while in. Make sure to be honest and tell them how the misdiagnosis has negatively affected your life.

I also went to the doctor’s with attention issues and luckily at the time I was stationed too far from a base hospital that I had civilian doctors. Stick to therapy and medications. Be honest with those around you when you’re having a hard day.

Everyone’s journey is different, but back when I was a VSO I helped a veteran with a similar situation. I believe it was the exact same thing as yours, although I can’t be 100% sure. I do know the correct diagnosis should have been BP but in service they treated him for something completely different and continued so with the VA once out and gave medications that just made his life more miserable. He didn’t get the correct diagnosis and treatment until he saw a psychiatrist who actually thoroughly examined him and gave a shit. He ended up getting the correct diagnosis from his treating mental health provider who also provided a letter.

Like I said, everyone’s journey is different and nothing is guaranteed but similar things have happened in relation to yours.

have a doctor write a letter stating that what you think is the case to see if it helps your claim. That is likely the best route you can’t just tell them it has to come from a doctor. It could be your mh has progressed but having a doc state it stated in military and either progressed because of military would certainly help

If the VA misdiagnosed, I think you file a “TORT” claim against the VA. I looked into to it for dental damage. I was told for me it wasn’t worth it because one typically needs expert legal advice and the (standard) award amount wont cover the legal bills. Suggest you ask about TORT claims against the VA.

If it was the military who misdiagnosed, I am not sure what to do for any compensation. I state this because of how the USN and the VA damaged my oral health. They first said I was disabled with 0% C&P and now retracted any disability because didn’t loose enough teeth!
