Small Business Showcase Highlights Black-Owned Businesses in Moultrie

A dozen organizations are currently participating in the Small Business Showcase at the Ryce Center in Moultrie, Georgia. The event, which runs until 5 p.m., is aimed at promoting and supporting Black-owned businesses in the community. In addition to Black-owned businesses, several non-profit groups are also taking part in the showcase, sharing their respective messages and missions.

The event is made possible through the sponsorship of two organizations – Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs (ACE) and EPIC (EyvoneÔÇÖs Porch In-centive). ACE, which recently opened an office in Tifton, focuses on providing loans to established businesses owned by women or minorities, particularly those operating in underserved areas such as South Georgia. Meanwhile, EPIC is a Moultrie-based nonprofit organization.

Tommie Beth Willis, ACE’s South Georgia regional director, expressed satisfaction with the response to the showcase, emphasizing the importance of introducing the community to the various Black-owned businesses. The hope is that some of the businesses participating in the event might become future customers of ACE.

Many of the businesses taking part in the showcase are relatively new ventures. For example, A-Team Appliance Repair, founded by Jeremiah Brooks, began in 2019 and expanded to Moultrie in 2021. Similarly, The Talk, an events center, is in its third year of operation, while Teen Attack, a clothing company, is in its fourth year. Reliable Tax Plus, on the other hand, is in its ninth year of operation. Additionally, Jerrell Anderson is representing a partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine, showcasing the efforts of the Morehouse Youth Leadership Council in addressing sexual health issues among young people in the community.

“We want to raise awareness not only to youth but adults in the community to help lower those numbers,” Anderson explained, referring to the high rates of sexually transmitted diseases and teen birth rates in Colquitt County compared to the state average.
