### Facing a Family Crisis: Seeking Support and Guidance

I (30 f) am currently grappling with a situation that has left me feeling lost and overwhelmed. Last week, my father (50) was given a warrant for his house and internet devices in connection with alleged “internet crime,” specifically child pornography. This news has shaken me to my core, as my father has always been my best friend and a pillar of support in my life.

My father was in the company of my 2-year-old child and my step-sister (21) when the police arrived to take him into custody. He has since maintained that the possession of this content was accidental and not intentional. However, with charges looming over him, I find myself torn between wanting to believe in his innocence and grappling with the gravity of the situation.

The lack of transparency from the authorities regarding the evidence they have found has only added to my uncertainty. I wonder if they will release this information to my father’s legal representation, and if so, how it will impact his case moving forward.

Amidst this turmoil, I am also 35 weeks pregnant with my second child, further compounding the emotional toll of the situation. I feel conflicted between love and anger towards my father, as I try to navigate the complexities of supporting him while also acknowledging the pain he has caused our family.

As we rally together to support my father, the financial burden of securing effective legal representation weighs heavily on my mind. I am unsure of how to discern which lawyer will best serve his interests and provide clarity on the potential outcomes of the case.

Additionally, the prospect of my father potentially facing jail time is a looming threat that weighs heavily on my stepmother and siblings. My husband and I are torn between extending financial support to them and safeguarding our own family’s future, particularly with a new baby on the way.

Amidst the public scrutiny and judgment that this case has attracted, I find myself navigating uncharted territory with a sense of unease. I seek advice, words of comfort, and reassurance from those who have experienced similar challenges and found a path forward amidst adversity.

Furthermore, the possibility of my father being restricted from seeing my children as a result of the legal proceedings adds another layer of distress to an already complex situation. His motivation and sense of purpose in life revolve around witnessing his grandchildren grow up, and the thought of that being jeopardized is a source of immense worry and anguish for our family.

These charges and their consequences vary greatly from state to state. I’m in california, I was originally charged with 7 counts possession, 7 counts distribution. After the whole case was over I plead guilty to 1 count of possession. I have county jail time, sentenced to 6 months but I will only have to serve 3 of those.

I wish I could tell you the job part and finances won’t be an issue afterward, it could depend on what he does for work, but a lot of people with sex offenses have trouble finding a decent paying job. There are people here that have pulled it off, but the job search is going to be difficult. It can be done, there are many here that are making good money but there are also many that struggle. It could come down to work ethic and how much you put into the search.

My charges and terms of probation said I am not allowed to have any contact with minors, with the exception of being in the presence (or supervised I guess) of someone that knows my charges and are ok with it. Again, this could vary depending on state.

A lot of what I have seen and heard, most of these things stem from earlier abuse or an escalating porn addiction. Mine was porn addiction, I have nieces and nephews but would never think of harming them in any way. But these things vary from person to person. It was one of those issues where I knew it was something wrong but because it was just a video on the screen there was some sort of detachment from reality so it didn’t seem as bad. I know now that was not the right way to be thinking. Hope things work out for you.

It depends on the judge, I was allowed to be around my step nephew and niece after sentencing because they were already living in the house I was in, the judge can give approval for certain circumstances, but they have to be brought up in court. After that once he is on probation/parole he will most likely have to do sex offender treatment, can’t speak for every state in the US but here the treatment provider can do a chaperone class, this is where a relative or friend can become a chaperone so that he can be around minors while the chaperone is present.

If you in the USA state charge change from state to state. And the amount of charges often end up as 1 or 2. No mistakes. If it was one pic only looked at for 5 seconds, it’s a mistake and can go away. But any film or 2 pics or more are not a mistake. The punushment has a wide range of 3 yrs probation to 15 yrs in prison. Registry of 10 yrs to life a fine and ALl kinds of bands added including not seeing family kids and grand kids.

But we are way off from their. Getting a lawyer is first. A lawyer who has experience with these cases and has connections in the DAs office. My case was different 32 yrs ago but cost 30k, and I went from 36 felonies to 2 mistormeanors in 9 months and got 3.5 years probation of 3 yrs group therapy and a fine. 1 10-year court restraining order.

Now have family with an adopted child, 2 businesses, and a nice home.

Your dad needs a lawyer first. You need to have a baby and not worry if he can be with your kids or not. The case can take 6 months to 4 years before settled. One step at a time. Cases usually don’t go to trail and 99% of the time a deal is made. Your dad needs to go see a therapist as well. Good luck.

Sounds like ur in the UK? if not, do you mind telling us – where –

Hey girl, please feel free to message me privately I know exactly what you’re going through the same thing happened to me but with my Husband.

  • Lucky_Cash_7102

You have been given really good advice here, so I will only add to your last question. For me, during my probation time, my lawyer specifically asked the judge and the DA to allow me the chance to have contact with my children. My crime was online too, but only two counts. Evaluations and therapy have all recommended that I don’t have any restrictions with seeing my own children. Other children is a different story. So maybe once you get a good lawyer, ask him that you would like to have him ask for that to be implemented. That your father wouldn’t be kept away from his grandchildren if you feel like this fact is important for everyone involved.

I’m a mom to two feral little boys so the pregnancy part sticks out to me first here. You probably know this but just in case – extreme stress can cause you to go into early labor so ideally you wanna try to minimize your stress the best you can until baby finishes baking (easier said than done, i know). Also, you’re gonna be a higher risk for PPD and PPA because you’re going into the postpartum months already carrying this additional stress and trauma. You may want to consider starting therapy now (or at least scheduling it) so that you’re already on someone’s radar. You said your dad is your bestie – what is the rest of your support system like?

  • Naive_House91

    >He NEVER committed any crimes against me, my friends, step siblings… I’m honestly shocked.

has it been confirm by said people?
