Take it from someone who made a massive left turn in life at 30, there is no such thing as “behind.”

  • Hefty-Lecture-1859

Im 48 and just discovered my passion! Relax….your not behind at all! I got 4 Degrees in Aerospace; Un-manned Aerial Systems and dont use any of them. As a matter of fact, slow down….We all gotta shed the “Rat Race” mentality.

  • Electronic-Bed-6192

I was 34 when I went back for my Masters in Education, just remember you are ahead of everyone who is sitting around doing nothing.

  • HazyGray1978

Imagine beginning a whole new career at 55 with only a few years left to retirement and the need to over save for retirement. Where most folks my age are already in then middle stages of preparing for it.

Thats a feeling of being behind

  • Ok_West4684

Behind who? I used to do that when I was younger, compare my life to others, but trust me when I say your life is different from everyone else’s as it should be. Your path is different, your challenges are different, and your outcome will be different. Blaze your own trail and make your own way. Don’t compare your situation to anyone else’s, this doesn’t do you any good. I wish you all the best…🙏🏻🙏🏻

  • Puzzleheaded_Luck885

Vincent Van Gogh didn’t even DECIDE to become a painter until he was 27 years old, and now he’s world famous, and millions of people flock to the museums every day to see his work for themselves.

Leave your ears on and stay out of mental asylums and you could still give this guy a run for his money.

  • Aggravating_Ad5421

36 here, spent the last year beating myself up over this exact thought and making no progress. Back to school for the summer quarter in a couple months and starting at the bottom.

I’ll be 40 when I start my new career but I will be bringing with me so many skills learned along the way that very few “young” newly grads will have.

The important thing is to keep moving forward, even taking a break is alright, quiting is unacceptable.

  • Mammoth-Atmosphere17

You’re fine. 25 is not behind at all

  • L_D_G

I used to feel like this when I was working low ceiling front desk jobs into…age 32.

A few years late and I am just beginning to find my career footing and not even sure how long it will last (mildly worried that I’m going to stagnate because it’s going to be hard to find another workplace as good as my current one). Working on my Masters at a whopping rate of two classes a year.

My advice is to simply enjoy what you’re doing. You’re not going to care how old you are if you’d doing what you enjoy.

  • marcel399

You doingjust fine. I just finished engineering degree from Ferris State in HVAC I’m 51, I started at 48, now I’m thinking to go to law school just to see if I can pull it off

  • TapeSSBM

I 26M recently got out (a year ago next month) and bro when I tell you I did a full 180, I went from AGE and now? I’m almost 40 credits into a Forensic Chemistry degree with a double minor in Biology and Criminal Justice.

Passions change, some come late in life. It be that way!

You’re not behind, you’re just starting somewhere new. Behind is sitting around doing nothing. Keep pushing, and good luck!

  • Top-Ant-121

Man I didn’t buy my house until 42. I know when you’re twenty the 40s seem really old lol , but trust me if you’re in school until you’re 37 and end up with a job in your field , you’re still gonna be way further ahead than more people

  • SinValentino

I’m 26 and still have a year or so left in my bachelors, my advice is apply to internships (like NASA (OSTEM or PATHWAYS) they have. A strong preference for vets!!!) use your service to your advantage and make the best of it. Better said than done but it’s something.

  • AffectionateInsect76

When you hit 40 you’ll say “I was an idiot at 25 I could have done anything”

Don’t worry about comparing your life to others. Your life will go at its own pace bro. I didn’t really start living like my peers til I was in my 30s

  • RednarLothbrok

I was in my 30s when I changed jobs, got divorced, and did a 180° life change and it was the best thing I could have ever done. Never too late to take charge of your fate fam. Your peace and happiness are the goal at all costs

  • Plastic-Relation-852

Did 10 years got out at 28. Turning 30 this month with 2 years left of nursing school I know the feeling. Regardless you’re still ahead in terms of benefits and no school debt.

  • PastMaintenance6587

You are actually ahead of the rest. You have broadened yourself and you are more mature than your classmates. Thump Mister Negative off of your shoulder and don’t look back! Best of luck, you are going to be very successful in life!

  • Royal_Ad_9559

You’re only 25… how is that behind? Adulting sucks you don’t want to rush into pursuing a career, peace and happiness is way better.

  • Far-Pen-9851

Everyone’s journey and timeline is different. No need to compare. I’d be grateful for the courage to make any necessary changes moving forward.

  • GeoGuy27

I’m 33 and just decided to pursue being a Civil Engineer. Boy what I would give to go back and do it at 25

  • Eli2cold09

I turned 33 last week and I’m in school as well. In my program, I’m probably the average age of people in my program. There are people from all ages and walks of life trying to better themselves and potentially switch careers. You’re definitely not behind by any means.

  • empire88

Comparison is the thief of joy.

  • Tubzero-

    I didn’t get a career job until I was 31

  • Original-Evening-744

    Chill bro. You’re young

  • Doosie-boosie7

I’m 27.. hey man this is something I’ve learned. I am the same way, I’m always hard on myself because I’m not where I pictured myself in life at this age but I look around at people content with having nothing and doing nothing constantly, it’s more common than you think.
Be grateful you’re hungry, most people aren’t.
let that shitty feeling of failure/ being behind motivate you to keep grinding and pursuing success in multiple fields..

  • Carlyclow

    I’m 40 in two weeks…you’re definitely not behind….

  • illegalF4i

I felt like you at one point. I was 29 when I finished my ME degree. The advantage is your school is paid for while getting paid to go.

  • tapf111

You’re on the right track. Don’t feel like you’re behind. You’re studying the right things, (engineering, etc.) If you were 30 and majoring in gender studies then I’d say yeah you’re way behind and on the wrong track.

  • DiamondhandsAMCGME

Dude you are not behind. I got out at 29 and barely had any money saved. I was engaged to someone that had a great job and was much more financially stable than me. I’m 33 now, finished my bachelors while working, and now quit my job to get my MBA. I am now much more financially stable (largely due to my wife 😂). You have Tons of time my friend!

  • daddyMG7

I still dont know what i want to do.

  • igotaflatire

You’re not behind man… Finally about to be a licensed electrician, but making a career change to do something that makes me happier and I have a wife, and newborn and I’m 25. You’ll figure it out, and everything will be alright good luck to you brother.

  • JoeKnowsOptions

    You have a lifetime
You made it out alive now live and have fun. A lot of my friends are gone I am lucky 🍀 life goes by fast you only are behind if you think that no one here said you were behind. Don’t let the monkey mind take control. Stay strong
    Semper Fi
    Remembering Pohang 89

  • FutebolEngineer

I got an ME degree and if you find the right job the work life balance is fantastic. Look at federal internships/jobs, you can buy your time back to retire earlier and the time counts towards leave accrual. You’re not behind, I went back to school at 27 and finished my MS at 32. Just remember to get out of the library and have some fun!

  • Fewtimesalready

You’re 24, working on a great career, and you’re not going to have student load debt till you’re 40. Any other traditional student is going to be paying 1000 a month for at least a decade for their education. You’re so far ahead and you don’t know it.

  • Key-Cap-2664

In 08 I was 28. I was set up nicely in the construction field and the bottom fell out of the economy. The whole market dried up in a few weeks. We saw housing permits plummeting to zero. Did a complete life change with a pregnant wife. It pushed me to finish my degree and pursue an MBA. Ill be 45 in a few months and if not for that life change I would not be where I am today. Ive got it pretty good.

  • Avocado_Infinite

I know ppl who make career changes in their 50s and they’re doing great. My own old man did that. They all turned out great. I think you are reading too much into the whole career timeline. Just stay off of social media and focus on your studies. Remember comparison is the thief of joy.

  • CucumberFew2644

I have taken 2 massive turns in lide sense the Navy.

From machinest mate on a CVN in reactor , to Physical Therapist Assistant for 15 years and now just stepped into Marketing. Ain’t now such thing as behind unless
You are trying run the rat race, at which you will always be behind if you are
Going to compare yourself. So stop comparing and start doing. It’s the only way

  • poser_x

You have to realize life is short yes, but it’s also long. Don’t compare your timeline to someone else’s. Not everyone is dealt the same cards. Take it from me, I turned 28 in March and will be starting my bachelors in May, after 10 years in the Navy. Obviously our age isn’t too far off, but I felt the same way for some time. What helped me is taking the wins you have everyday and stack em up.

You woke up today (a lot of people didn’t). You have a roof over your head, you have clothes, you have food, you’re in college bettering yourself and I’m sure there’s other things you can say about your current situation that other might not be able to.

There’s people that are probably in their 60s that would kill to have that opportunity in life. I’m not saying you’re not grateful, but when you take your little wins like that and add them up it makes you feel better about your “timeline”.

Keep your head up, you’ll look back one day and think to yourself “I made it”, when that happens you’ll still have plenty of time to live that timeline of yours and you’ll be able to help the younger generation going through the same thing you’re going through right now. You’ll prevail and get through this 🙏🏻

  • Strong__Style

Every time you start feeling like this, go take a stroll in your downtown parts that are littered with homeless. You will never feel behind again. People need perspective.

  • Sillyracegirl

Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Your journey and experience will be way different than the next person. I am an active duty guidance counselor, and I have 1sg and or SGM that are barely starting after 25+ years in service. Make the best of it.

  • BigHouse1984

I got married at 29. Bought a house at 30. Had my first kid at 32. Also the same age I started college and found my current job that I love. I’m about to turn 40 and have my 3rd kid. There’s no such thing as behind. You have to walk your own path.

  • SnooDrawings7923

bro you have nothing to worry about. theres no such thing as behind only elon musk rich & skid row junkie poor.

  • sarge_taz

It’s all in your head. Just live every day as it comes. You don’t have control of what the future brings. I one’s thought that, and one year after I left active duty, I was diagnosed with cancer. I’m good now, but that experience tough me that we don’t have any control. So keep going to school and learning the craft.

  • Mindful_of_Me

You can make $200k+ in mechanical engineering without even getting your engendering license. Project managers are in depend in for industrial mechanical engineering companies doing work for tech and bio-medical/pharmaceutical companies. Your life looks bright. Now get off of this sub where dead enders are.

  • NefariousnessOdd8832

Any places you guys recommend to relocate for school?

  • thedeephouser
