Following the passing of her father a few years ago, Kecia Allen found solace in making beet tea for herself. She never expected that this simple pleasure would ignite a desire in others for her unique brew. As her friends and acquaintances tasted her beet tea, they couldn’t resist asking if they could purchase some for themselves. Surprised by the unexpected demand, Allen realized she had stumbled upon a potentially lucrative business idea.

With plans to start a small business centered around her tea, Allen’s path took an unexpected turn after her participation in the entrepreneurial program offered by the Metropolitan Business League (MBL), a local organization. The program, known as the Kauffman FastTrac, selects 30 aspiring business owners or entrepreneurs in the early stages of developing their ventures and guides them through a ten-week journey.

During the program, participants refine their business plans, learn essential strategies for launching a successful company, and benefit from the advice and experiences shared by established small business owners. Lauren Boswell, the Director of Entrepreneurship at MBL, emphasized the program’s comprehensive approach, which transcends the mere technicalities of entrepreneurship. The cohort not only gains valuable knowledge but also develops a network of like-minded individuals who support and inspire one another.

Allen, now three weeks into the program, expressed her enthusiasm about the profound impact it has had on her perspective. Initially focused on simply bringing her tea to the market, she now envisions a thriving wellness business specializing in active aging. Inspired by her passions for fitness, photography, and health and nutrition, Allen wants to create a holistic platform that fosters knowledge-sharing between generations.

As Allen and her fellow cohort members dive deeper into market analysis and business essentials, she urges others with exciting ideas to seek help and embrace the support available. Nonetheless, she advises aspiring entrepreneurs not to let their emotions hinder progress. By sharing their innovative concepts with the world, they may discover an eager audience waiting for their unique offerings.
