Yeah, I get the feeling what you punched in and what you *meant* to punch in were different.

For instance, if I use the weight and dimensions you provided, I get a shipping charge of $400-$500. I do a lot of shipping through work, and that sounds about right.
If I screw up a dimension, on the other hand… like, say, shipping a 50 pound item that measures 5 x 27 x 22, the price on that is… $104.81.

  • NickDixon37

It seems that you should be entitled to a better explanation. It’s possible that if your package actually weighed just over 50 pounds that there would be some significant extra cost, and it’s possible that if you rounded down the dimensions, and fedex rounded up, you may have exceeded a 108″ limit.

Or, it might make a difference if there was a disclaimer on the form about an additional cost for larger weights and dimensions – but if the weight and dimensions were entered correctly electronically one would expect the software to calculate properly.

  • Sphartacus

I put in your package details, from somewhere in VT to somewhere in CO, on their rate calculator and got a $356 base rate along with a couple of oversize fees bringing it to $566. That’s dimensional weight plus a large package fee, your rate was just for a small 50 pound package. It would be strange for their quote page to give me the right price only for their shipping page to be wrong. Were you using a third party site for shipping or possibly going to a neighborhood shipping store? You may need to take it up with them, Fedex for sure has it in their terms and conditions that you have to pay dimensional weight and fees if you used their website.

  • EnriqueShockwave10

OP, I’m pretty sure you screwed up when you were entering in details for your quote.

That’s a really big and heavy box. No way it only quoted for $100.

  • Cravati

I have never once been charged more after purchasing a label and I ship a lot. They obviously can’t just trust what you put down when purchasing a label, so they will upcharge you if, when they get the package it is heavier or larger than you put down. My guess is that you mismeasured, it weighed more than you thought, or it’s an error on their part.

  • FilecoinLurker

Sounds like the fine print wasn’t read. If you mislead fedex they’ll adjust the price accordingly. A package that size may need to go on a pallet, or require a lift gate. You wanted ground but they said woah buddy you meant freight. Also if its freight to a home address even more $$

  • The_dog_ate_my_work

I think you exceeded the size limit. You also can’t go with the size printed on the box, which is usually the internal dimensions, you need to measure the exterior and round up to the next inch if it is even the slightest bit over a whole inch at any point on that side.

  • MisterDevilMan

They charged you freight, but quoted you for ground. Call customer service and demand a refund

  • sithelephant

What happens if you assume your measurements are a little off. What for example is 51lb and 58*28*23.

60″ may also be another magic number.

  • Tuckerman48

Did you weigh the package in the store on their scale? Do you have all the paperwork from the shipment? If so, you should be able to get some sort of credit back if overweight because you used your scale. If the weight was not the issue, then they need to explain why you were charged the extra $342 Doesn’t seem legit in the least.

  • paulschreiber

Did you use an account number with the quote and forget to use it with the actual package, resulting in you being charged the retail price?

  • apaksl

If you’re quoting and printing the label yourself, then it sounds like you have an account. Don’t you then also have an account rep you can talk to?

  • SuspiciousRed_Neck_5

A quote is just that a quote. Actual charges are actual.

  • Ascarletrequiem88

We ship with FedEx a lot. If you weight and dimension were accurate, your rate quote should have included any oversized charges. You can argue this with them, but FedEx is a lot like Amazon with customer service. Most of the time they are not helpful, and just give you lines from a script. You probably have better luck waiting for it to show up on your bill and the calling the revenue department.
