## AI Legalese Decoder: Helping with VA Disability Claims

### Original Claim Timeline

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you all an update on my VA disability claim process. I initially submitted my claim on December 1st, 2023. The last Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) was submitted on January 7th, and I received the decision yesterday! 🥳 I have been rated at 10% since my discharge in December 2013, and I was pleasantly surprised to be awarded a 60% rating. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions over the past few months, filled with anxiety, but the outcome was definitely worth the wait.

### Anticipating Back Pay

Now that I have received my rating and the digital letter confirming it, I am eagerly awaiting the direct deposit for my back pay. The VA has informed me that they will be paying me retroactively from the date of my intent to file, which was back in July 2023. This financial assistance will surely provide some much-needed relief.

on my previous claims, the “retroactive” pay (back pay) usually hit within a few days of decision… then your increase will start from the next normal monthly payment. I think that’s how it usually works. Go into “Pay History” in your va. gov account and you should see the “pending retroactive” payment scheduled. If you see it, expect it to hit your account within a day or two or three.

Like 2-3 business days or sooner

    Usually within a week.

Got mine same day as 100 showed on me.

Congratulations on getting awarded at your new level of disability! I’m retired military and went from 20% to 50% on January 2, 2024. This made me eligible to receive my backpay from VA once DFAS did their magic to get the withheld backpay from my military retirement.. Took DFAS a bit over two months to do their reconciliation and I was paid back the withheld retirement pay on March 7, 2024. Then came the fun part. VA opened a claim on March 8, 2024 for VA backpay (nothing I requested) and it’s been bouncing back and forth and is now back to “Gathering of Evidence”. Kind of ridiculous since most military retirees on here got there backpay within days of reconciliation from DFAS. I have a VERA call next Monday hoping for some resolution.

The last two times I got an increase, the money was in my bank before it was on the VA’s website.

  • Melodic-Average6241

Had one take 3 days and one take 15 days. Both earlier this year.

Seems to be on each end of what people post here.

I got notified mid February and it hit my account 1 April. Don’t know why but they had to check with DFAS even though I’m 90% and elegible for concurrent reciept

  • TrashRecruit

I got my decision on a Thursday and backpay was in my account by Saturday morning (Navyfed had originally said I’d see it on Monday).

  • Either_Selection7764

    My experience was much different.

My decision was made on March 26th and I still don’t have it.

When I called, I was told that the 7-10 days for back pay in the letter isn’t accurate, and to wait until the next pay period checks are scheduled before I even call back.

  • Annsosatisfied

    4 days

  • Ragnar-Lothbrok1

My intent was January 2023. Submitted everything January 2024 with a few days to spare. Got my % last Friday and back pay today

  • SgtDeWeerd

Mine showed up the day after my decision letter. Congratulations!

  • Faded_vet

I think it says exactly how long the estimate is in the paperwork they gave you. Its an estimate but its definitely not 2-3 days as some are saying. It “can” be that quick but not all are that is for sure.

  • Cjanai26

    Abt 3 days usually!

  • New-Heart5092

    Roughly 1-7 business days.

  • Professional_Ad_2311

I got roughly 42k back pay that took 2 days to hit my account

  • SeriesNew8600

So happy for you! Hubby submitted July 2023. Last DBQ uploaded Jan 4. I hope he gets some news soon. Almost a year later. I will tell him check again. Again congrats!

  • RayGun83

Mine took around 60 days to hit my account. They had to do an audit on my account for because they backdated a 10% increase to a year prior.
