## Issue with Child Support Payments

My ex-partner has allegedly had two child support payments deducted from his wages, but I have not received any of the money. The Department of Child Support (DCS) has informed me that no payments have been made on the account, and that my ex’s employer has not been cooperative in providing information. They advised him to check with his payroll department, and he mentioned that there seems to be a problem between ADP (payroll) and the state system. This situation has left me wondering where the garnished money is actually being directed.

he could be lying but Ive also seen (briefly worked in payroll at a previous job) it could simply be human error or they’re just slow…

Oh, if it’s ADP it’s definitely going to be slow for the money to get to you as they have the ability to make government seem efficient and transparent in comparison. If it’s been 3 or more pay periods I would reach out to your ex and ask that he contact Division of Child Support to provide proof of the garnishment so they can fix this. This is also going to affect him too since it will show him in arrears for credit bureau reporting even though ADP has garnished.

ADP is often problematic. They eventually get it together, but it’s slow

It takes time for ADP to process payments and they likely only do it once a month. So if his garnishment started after they processed last month? It may be February before you see any movement.

The cynic in me says ADP makes money by earning interest on payroll money during the time they receive it and the time they disburse it to the employees and others.

Putting that aside, payroll services like ADP are engaged by the employer, which means that the employer is still responsible for any late payments.
