You only want to focus on what prevents you from working. ItÔÇÖs quality over quantity with SSA. DonÔÇÖt confuse things by talking about a minor foot or eye injury. Neither of those things will help qualify you for disability. As far as rounding up records, you give your medical providerÔÇÖs information to SSA when you apply. They will request your records from the provider.

34% of applications are approved initially so yes a lot of people are denied but if you have good doctors who believe you need disability and keep good records on you, you are more likely to be approved.

I would recommend gathering all medical records yourself and sending them in, even tho ssi requests them it’s up to the doctor to send them in and most of the time they do not. I tried applying for similar reasons as well as all of my medical issues with my neck, back, knees and hands and of course my mental health as well. Not even half of my medical records were turned in by the doctors after signing to have them released and also ssi requires u to have everything updated in which the medical diagnosis so if anything is a year or more older u would need to go back to doctor to have them update ur records so they are current. My medical records were over a year old and apparently they don’t accept those as being a current diagnosis. I waited more than 6 months for them to complete their medical review and they denied me even after going to their medical appt that they set up and that doctor told me I had more than enough records proving my mental and physical wellbeing but since they were over a year old ssi didn’t except them due to it not being current. And then found out that only a few medical records were even sent over ,so I wish I would of just went to get the records myself and have them scanned into my case at ssi.

I ended up signing my child up for ssdi due to him having autism, the caseworker told me since his records were over a year old they would need to send me to 1 of their docs to confirm nothing has changed. I filed him in April 2023, went to their doc appt that they scheduled in october and November 2nd they ended up making their decision that he was eligible for ssdi…. they make everything such a Hassle and tbh most ppl who get ssi don’t even need it and the ones who truly do need ssi get denied… it’s ridiculous. Good luck on ur case and remember, gather all of ur medical records yourself because my own caseworker told me “they request the records but they can’t force the doctor to send them in” which is not right at all.

Get your records in order because the more documentation you have, the better, and they will ask you to sign for releases but we all know that doctors will take forever to send them in. When you get to your doctor’s appointments that are their people, bring those records to include in their reports.

I know that the longer you have had extended documentation for conditions the more likely you get approved.

I was approved for Major Depressive Disorder after my first application and they even backdated my application to several months before I originally apief.
