Hey all, I hope everyone is well. As most of you know, I have been facing some challenges recently. I have been charged with two counts of possession, although I have not been formally charged yet. These circumstances have led to me losing my jobs, including one at a hotel where I was working. Unfortunately, I lost this job when I went to jail during a week where I was scheduled to work.
In light of these events, I have recently applied for a few waiter/bartender positions. While I have never bartended before, I am eager to learn and develop new skills. I am curious to hear from others who are working in these fields – is it possible to make a decent living as a waiter or bartender?
I am hopeful that I will be able to secure some interviews for these positions in the near future.

Hi! I work as a server and make a pretty good bit of money now that I moved to a more high traffic place! On average roughly 23 an hour give or take. Serving/bartending is gonna vary depending where you live, where you work, where it’s placed at. If it’s a good traffic place or something that isn’t olive garden you could make decent tips! A good thing is it’s high turn over rate and most don’t even do background checks they always in need of bodies. Bartending could make a fair bit of money if you’re good with making your drinks and having good social energy. It is food service so money can vary from day to day week to week. But I make a good living and not strapped for cash at the moment but I also work 6 days out of the week and do a bit of overtime not that it matters cause what’s a check? XD

Since it looks like you’re in Lexington, you may want to make some phone calls before applying for bartending jobs.
There are some pretty intense local laws in a lot of the big cities in KY (including Lexington) concerning bartending.
I believe a background check is required and you cannot have been convicted of a felony in the past two years. See law below concerning anyone who holds a liquor license (which would be your employer):

I don’t know how this will apply since you’ve not been charged yet but know that KY is one of the few states where they literally have to run a background check on servers and bartenders.
Also, just be careful. Police do stings at resturants and bars all the time to make sure that the staff isn’t selling to people under legal drinking age or even to those without a valid ID. So you have to really seriously pay attention to every ID – usually an expired ID isn’t valid to use to purchase alcohol, you can’t forgo asking for ID from a 90 year old man and can’t serve him if he doesn’t have one, etc… these are actual arrestable offenses. Some cities never do this at all and some are out doing it every weekend. Some only do it when someone underage was drinking at a bar and ends up killing someone or causing a major accident.
Also, you cannot legally serve people who are intoxicated but the bar will probably expect you to. It puts you in a shit situation.
It’s usually great money and it’s not scary if you follow the rules but you do *really* have to follow the rules and licensing is usually through the state police.

Your lucky! I was in same boat, get the job before conviction. do a out standing job and ask them if I can take a leave for a few weeks . u might have to reapply depending on the policy. good luck!
