Introduction
Navigating the complexities of VA compensation claims can be overwhelming, especially when faced with discrepancies in pay start dates, EAS dates, and dependent status. Fortunately, the AI Legalese Decoder is here to provide clarity and assistance for individuals seeking compensation for their service-related disabilities.
Challenges Faced
Upon contacting the VA, I was informed that my first check would not be issued until January 1st, despite my pay start date being slated for December 1st. This delay is concerning, particularly in light of the fact that I EASed on November 3rd. Additionally, I submitted BDD claims, raising the question of whether I will receive back pay dating back to my EAS date. Furthermore, the VA failed to account for my marital status and two children, resulting in my current designation as a “single vet.” As a result, I am left wondering if I will receive retroactive compensation for this oversight.

The situation described above underscores the need for clear and accurate communication between veterans and the VA regarding compensation claims. AI Legalese Decoder can help individuals in similar circumstances by decoding the complex language of VA documents and regulations, providing a better understanding of their entitlements and rights. I don’t think anyone has put it in simple laymen’s terms.
You EASes in Nov, no partial months so November doesn’t count.
You start being paid for December, but we are paid in arrears. So, the check you get Jan 1 is for the month of December.
Dec 1 means your first paycheck will be jan 1.
You will need to add your dependents and youÔÇÖre not owed any back pay since you got out Nov 3rd. Your first payment will be for December and will receive that on January 1st. They will pay you the difference once you add your dependents.
You EASd on NOV 3rd, VA does pay in partial months.
You START your pay clock on the first FULL month.
In your case December.
So once you have successfully lived threw the month of December, you will be pay for it on the 1st of Jan.
Same goes for each month after.
VA pays in Arrears – the military paid you in arrears – civilian jobs pay you in arrears. Dec 1 is the day you started work – you get paid at the end of the work month.
You won’t be back paid for November – VA doesn’t pay partial months. You need to go to va.gov and add your dependents – that can take months to process – you would only be back paid to Dec 1 for your dependents.
Damn bro, I also did a BDD claim and got out on Nov 3rd and IÔÇÖm still waiting on evidence and gathering.
As the other redditors have stated, your first check will start January 1st
Actually your check on Jan 1st should include two months pay, Dec 1st and Jan 1st. ƒñö
After you get paid you have to reenter your dependents then theyÔÇÖll issue you another check for that difference.
So with the dependents, if you didn’t submit a VA Form 21-686c, you’ll need to do that. DOD DEERS information doesn’t translate to VA, different rules for dependents for one. If you did submit the claim form, did they address the dependents asking for more information or provide a reason for denying them? If you submit the dependents claim within a year, it will go back to 12/1.
I got back pay for my spouse – just called right away
Dec 1 is your start date. You don’t get your 1st paycheck on your 1st day of work. VA is no different
Sorry, gotta wait, but at least you know it on the way.
I got out Oct 2nd on a BDD. Pay didnÔÇÖt start until Nov 1st since its the first full month so my pay was Dec 1st
