Usually only one reason a landlord wants payment in cash.

Politely mention you need some detailed rental receipts as you’ve suddenly realised your rent is partially tax deductible but having paid in cash you need to provide the ATO extra evidence of your address and how much you’ve been paying. However you can decide not to do that if it would create a problem for them, on a condition they accept your clean, release your bond, and move on.

They can’t just clean it and then bill you; no. Illegal. You have every right to go back and fix any issues. They’re just trying to steal some of your bond. I bet 100% they won’t clean anything if you let them take your money.

    Are you in Vic?

New laws state that the LL can only request professional cleaning at the end of lease if it was professionally cleaned immediately before the tenant moved in.

It is possible an LL would try get tenants who are now end of lease to pay for a professional clean now, even if not required, so that they can use this to mandate a professional clean at the end of the next tenants lease.
