Title: AI Legalese Decoder: An Innovative Solution to Financial Struggles

Introduction:

Acknowledging the poor decisions I have made, I (21F) find myself burdened with a significant debt of around $35,600. As an E3, I am currently facing arrears in both my car loan and wifi payments. In this write-up, I will elaborate on my financial situation and explore how the AI Legalese Decoder can offer valuable assistance.

Debt Breakdown:

1. Car Loan: I owe $23,890 on a 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid financed through Toyota with an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 9.18%. This loan has become a significant liability in my financial standing.

2. Credit Card Debt: I am also grappling with an $8,500 credit card debt from Navy Federal Credit Card, which incurs a staggering APR of 18%. This high rate adds to my financial strain.

3. Personal Loan: An additional $2,850 personal loan weighs heavily on me. This loan, obtained from Navy Federal, carries an APR of 18%, further contributing to my financial obligations.

4. Credit Card Balance: Besides the above debts, I also have a credit card balance of $300 from Capital One, which compounds at an exorbitant APR of 31.49%. This adds to the mounting interest costs that make my situation more challenging.

Financial Obligations:

Ranging from groceries to monthly expenses, my bills average around $3,532. This figure includes rent, phone bills, car insurance, car and credit card payments, utilities, and gas. Consequently, my current financial standing appears extraordinarily negative, with a deficit of approximately $75.

Cut expenses. Eat only at the base DFAC or learn to cook at home. No eating out. Turn off all unnecessary expenses like streaming services. Lower your cellphone plan. Shop around for a better cell and car insurance option. Read Dave Ramsey stuff on getting out of debt and the baby steps. Then do them. And do not get in trouble at work and lose rank.

You can get out of this, trust me. You need to do several things. #1 if you can, you need a side hustle after work to increase your income. #2 sell your car you canÔÇÖt afford it, if your upside down then you will need to hold onto it until you have positive equity. #3 apply the snowball method to pay off your debts. Start by only making minimum payments on all debt and maximize your payment to the lowest balance and pay it off ($300). Once you pay one off you start paying the next lowest balance. This is why I suggest you get a side hustle to supplement your income. You should never eat out either if you are since that is very expensive and youÔÇÖre broke at the moment.
What year did you join the service? What branch are you in? Are you married?

Put in for Turkey. Extra $1k a month now. No taxes. No rent, utilities.

How many bills are you behind on, or have missed scheduled payments on? Not trying to scare you, but as military members, we’re required to stay in good standing with creditors; it’s not optional. If you’re missing payments you need to self-identify with your security manager before continuous monitoring catches up to you. I’ve seen many different AF members have their security clearance revoked, but self-identification through the proper channels (supervisor -> Shirt -> security manager, though you can go directly to your security manager) is the only way to show good faith and that you’re aware of and working on the problem. This will also open doors to finding local solutions to your issues. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Do you guys have a command financial service? You really need help here from someone with expertise in this.

WhatÔÇÖs your monthly income? Do you collect BAH?

  • StyleJust

    Talk to your supervisor asap

For all your non-auto debt, you need to consolidate all of your debt into something with a lower rate.

You can usually do balance transfer cards if you have an even remotely decent credit score. I doubt you have a ton into tsp, but if you do for some reason, you might be able to borrow against that.

Once your debt is consolidated, if you can sell your car without being underwaterÔÇödo that.

If you have a skill you need a side hustle if not, bartending and pizza delivery are both good ways to make tips. Depending on your locale, you can make decent money with Uber and shipt.

In addition your wing should have some good resources to help.

  • Vettepilot

It sucks for a while, but being negative monthly and having a lot of debt with a lot in interest is something that will get worse and worse. You need an extreme correction immediately. Cut out anything that isnÔÇÖt absolutely necessary. Eat cheap foods, stop drinking/smoking if you do and you think you can, donÔÇÖt go out anywhere, suspend your Wi-Fi and any streaming services, use your phone for online banking, get a library card and borrow DVDs or books to fill your spare time and use their wifi, find a cheaper phone carrier, if you can sell your car without still owing more then do it and buy a cheap but reliable used car. Check to see if there is cheaper car insurance available. Work hard at work to get the next promotion. If you think you have the bandwidth, get another job or side hustle.

Once youÔÇÖve gotten yourself to a positive position again and caught up on your debts then you can slowly start treating yourself to fun and nicer (but reasonable) things again occasionally.

Get an AER loan and pay your highest interest things first

  • pcsjoes

Talk to your supervisor & shirt fast. Your caregiver situation is unique & builds into the total picture of how you may have been drawn into this financial position. They should be able to help with your DEERS issue. Regardless, you’ll get flagged in the system eventually for security clearance stuff so it’s better for them to find out through you now than get blindsided later.

  • BastidChimp

Thank you for your service, from a Navy vet. Try using either the Avalanche or the Snowball method to bring down your debt. There are YouTube videos that have extensive information on these two methods. Prep your own meals and refrain from going out to eat. Pause all investments including IRAs. Just invest enough of your salary to receive the TSP max matching contribution (5%). Once you have ended your debt your options will open up immediately to save and invest more aggressively for other endeavors.

  • Awilliams64

    What branch?

If you have a $300 surplus why are you behind?

Can you do without wifi for a bit?

Do you have any sneaky bills/subscriptions like Hulu/netflix? They can add up.

  • DanTheMan_15

  • FrauAmarylis

According to USAA, Car Payments are the number one financial stress on military families.

They have said this for years.

Get an appointment at your service’s Relief Society for a free budget counseling appointment. You should be able to get off work to attend because financial readiness is important.

  • ProbablyNotYourMedic

Can you donate plasma? Usually they have bonuses so the first month can get you ~$800. After that itÔÇÖs about ~$50 each time (you can go twice a week). Some places give a few extra bucks to military as well. ItÔÇÖs gotten me out of a few rough patches.

  • sineadari

The military pays for your living expenses, and for groceries. So what do you mean?
