    what’s an itaku contractor?

  • Ok-Somewhere-4377

    If Eikawa school gets audited and have his info on the books , he will get audited as well.

    > What are the chances that he gets caught not declaring is ITAKU income?

    The only realistic way he will get caught (other than via a tip-off) is via the eikaiwa.

    Unless the eikaiwa is keeping payments made to him completely off the books (which would mean the payments are not tax-deductible for the eikaiwa), those payments (including your friend’s name) will be in the eikaiwa’s income/expenditure records, which are submitted to the NTA each year. That doesn’t mean the NTA will *definitely* spot that the payments were made to someone who didn’t declare them (they don’t cross-reference every payment), but it does mean that the NTA has all the information it needs to make that connection, even without requesting access to anyone’s bank accounts.

    Is the eikaiwa withholding income tax from the payments, at least? If so, it’s possible that your friend is not actually evading as much tax as they think they are. It may even be in your friend’s financial interest to declare the payments, in order to receive a credit for the withheld tax. If the eikaiwa is *not* withholding income tax, however, and they are required to do so, the chances of the payments attracting the NTA’s attention are much higher, since failing to withhold income tax from payments made to individuals is a serious offence.

    IÔÇÖm just wondering if anyone has heard of someone being audited if their total income is below, say, 20 million? The only people I know who have been audited are those on high incomes but doing all sorts of schemes to reduce taxes.

  • Lower_Rabbit_5412

    Honestly, unless he is on a spouse visa I would be much more concerned about his current visa status. The visa for ALTs and eikaiwa teachers are not the same one so they could be breaking the terms of their visa.

    They really should be declaring their income and paying appropriate taxes though. It’s things like that which can cause bad sterotypes to form and then everyone is worse off.

    With mynumber; yeah it might be a thing now

  • ProgrammerComplex241

    you never know when you will get randomly audited, it could be today, it could be anyday in the next 50 years, the day it happens shit will rain, in the best case only fines will be issued. it is a very stupid play long term.

    Itaku = ÕºöÞ¿ù
    Depends how much your revenue per year, some below 2 million per year may be never get checked.
