This innovative tool can provide invaluable assistance in understanding legal jargon, navigating legal procedures, and helping individuals avoid unnecessary pitfalls and arrest. In this article, we explore how the AI Legalese Decoder can be a lifeline for those grappling with the ramifications of a speeding ticket.

The Initial Dilemma:
I was recently issued a speeding ticket, stating that I was driving less than 25 mph over the speed limit. As an individual who has never been in trouble before, this situation has left me feeling extremely anxious and nauseous. Considering my unemployment at that time, I decided to request a 90-day extension online. Fortunately, my request was granted. However, life took a positive turn when I secured a job last week, with my first paycheck due this Friday. This gave me hope that I would be able to pay the ticket soon.

The Unexpected Twist:
Unfortunately, my financial situation did not improve in time to meet the original payment deadline, and now I find myself in even deeper trouble. I received a letter in the mail stating that a warrant has been issued for my arrest due to the expiration of the 90-day extension. Needless to say, this news terrified me, as losing my job right after finding employment would be devastating for me and my child. It’s worth mentioning that I’ve been struggling to keep up with my power bill, which has been two months behind and is now under a disconnect notice for over a year. What city did you get the ticket in? Or was it from a state trooper? Do you live in/near the city that issued the ticket?

  • MrThe1Badman

For the future going to court and explaining your situation might get you help or extension. Depends on the judge and local laws. You should perhaps call court house or if they put number on the letter and let them know the situation youÔÇÖre in. If you live in the same county warrant was issued they may swing by your house depending on what police have going on. Not trying to scare you into making decision just letting you know possibility.

IÔÇÖd say get a lawyer but you already donÔÇÖt have the funds. My state has programs to help people get them but not sure if thatÔÇÖs every where perhaps calling bar association can help at least point you the right way. https://www.alabar.org/for-the-public/get-legal-help/

  • TheGoodBunny

Call the court and pay the ticket and fine to avoid jail

  • Licky_Licky_69

I was in your spot with a different state

The only real way out of this is to either pay the fine or go to court and HOPE they show mercy (don’t count on that one)

If a cop runs your info, whether or not you were in an incident as someone else mentioned, and they have an extradition deal with the country that issued the warrant, you’re getting arrested

If you want to know my details:

They pulled up behind me at a stoplight and arrested me after running my plates

I had got 6 tickets from 3 different counties, as I lived on the line between three of them. 2 tickets per county, all in about 6 weeks, all traffic tickets like “License plate light is out” or “Illegal U-turn” (which is the one that got me)

I went to all my court each time, as well, but I accidentally went to ticket #5 location on ticket #4 date (this particular one I paid at the clerk and left, because I didn’t have time to wait)

Well, a few days later I was driving to a friend’s house, and the cops pulled up, flashed their lights, and arrested me for “Failure to appear”

I got out of jail that Monday (they arrested me on a Saturday night), after being sentenced to community service

I ended up moving out of state a week later and did not complete the CS. I moved back to the state a few years later owing about $900 total

I paid it off and never heard from anyone about it again

It’s also worth noting that I had had SEVERAL background checks for jobs, including in the fraud department of a bank, and it never prevented me from anything, even while it was an active warrant

Also also, and this is SUPER important….. my story is an anecdote, and may not represent what normally happens in cases like this

  • SingularEcho

Call the court, ask if you 1) can pay the ticket online, and 2) if doing so would clear the warrant. Absent being able to pay online, ask if the warrant will clear if you show up with the payment in full.

  • tehremy

It’s a soft bench warrant. That means they won’t come looking for you at home. But that means they have your photo on a hot sheet with other “wanted” people. They most likely won’t recognize your face but your vehicle and tags are gonna be pretty hot while the warrant is active, especially if they have auto scanners in your area. With that all being said, even if they do arrest you, with that charge you’ll likely be bonded out that night or early this next morning at the latest. If you pay the ticket online now it should cancel the warrant out but it won’t be immediate. Pay the ticket, call the courthouse the next day and explain your plight, they will work with you surely. You’re not a criminal, you’re not who they’re after, you just slipped through some white collar cracks for your family, they’re not trying to jail you I promise.

  • berthejew

Hi there, I’m a bondsman. You can usually hire one to pay your bond at the courthouse- we call it a walk in, or voluntary surrender. 95% of the time we just do the paperwork, go to the county clerk, and she issues the bond. When you’re bonded, you’ll get a new court date, pay it in the meantime AFTER you bond, and you should be good. Only people with probation violations and such do they insist on booking into the jail. Good luck!

    This is not legal advice.

  • Top-Pea-8975

First, see if your county uses this online system: [https://traffic.alacourt.gov/](https://traffic.alacourt.gov/)

If your county is listed, there appears to be an option to request a new court date if you have an outstanding warrant. See instructions at the above link (click on “resolve” then select “request new court date”)

If your county doesn’t use this system, Google the county name plus “traffic court” to see if they have any information about paying a ticket or releasing a warrant. If that doesn’t work then call the court first thing Monday morning to find out what to do. You probably need to request a new hearing date and then appear in court.

  • cooltraining3323

I suspect this is just a warrant that goes away once you pay. They just want your money and they know that letter will scare but that does not mean if you have a law enforcement contact on the road you won’t get arrested but they just want your money. Once you pay it should go away.

  • Lawyer_Lady3080

I canÔÇÖt provide a definitive answer, but I donÔÇÖt personally know a court that wouldnÔÇÖt recall the warrant if the ticket was paid now. ItÔÇÖs frankly a waste of resources to send police to track you down over a ticket, so I know here that no one would do a home or workplace visit over this. But it would be something that popped up if you otherwise have a police interaction (like being pulled over).

  • LostNplace710

I just went through something similar. Write the district attorney in the jurisdiction. Tell them whatÔÇÖs going on and request a new court date. They will cancel the warrant if the judge approves. Best of luck.

  • LowerEmotion6062

So be aware that many times when a warrant is issued, they also suspend your license. It’s a vicious cycle that I got caught in when I was younger.

Get the warrant cleared up ASAP and make sure your license is still valid.

  • hazmat962

YouÔÇÖre going to get arrested next law enforcement contact.

  • wastingtimeeveryday1

In my county in Alabama, you go to the clerkÔÇÖs office and pay the ticket plus the warrant fee (the warrant adds about $100 to the ticket), and then they recall the warrant. It takes a little while for the warrant recall to get into the system, but just ask them for a copy of the recall to keep with you. Ask, but your license was probably suspended when the warrant was issued. TheyÔÇÖll give you a clearance notice, and you take that to the state trooperÔÇÖs office to have your license reinstated. IÔÇÖm not sure if the cost for that, but I think itÔÇÖs around $150.00. (One more thing, they usually donÔÇÖt go looking for you for a FTA for traffic. Most of those arrests are made if youÔÇÖre stopped for something else. They always run your info. for warrants after they stop you.)

  • aeiou-y

Check to see if there is a way to pay online. Pay the ticket and then follow up with the court on the phone.

  • LowEffortMeme69420

Stay at a friendÔÇÖs house until you get paid, if they check on you it will be at your legal address.

  • Shugazi

I hate to tell you this, but it is definitely possible that they will show up and arrest you at home. The likelihood and timeframe depend entirely on your county. This happened to me in a similar situation for a traffic ticket and I had recently moved so I didnÔÇÖt get a notice in the mail. Definitely call
the courthouse first thing Monday morning and explain your situation.

  • tehremy

Also, nobody will be extraditing that warrant either. Lots of tin foil hats on here trying to scare you. The cops probably won’t even take you to jail if they stop you for that petty charge. It’s not even a failure to appear, you live in the county, you have children, not really a flight risk or career criminal they just want their money

  • 703unknown

Really depends on what type of warrant was taken out on you. Traffic cases are civil offenses and not criminal cases. If there was no judgements made in absentia then it most likely a civil capias warrant (commonly known as body attachments or mittimuses)in which the court his trying get you in front of the judge so you can receive judgment. If it’s a capias pro fine warrant then judgement was passed and you have fines and cost too pay and they need you to appear to take care of the judgement in full or through “time served” after a period of incarceration.

  • According_Guide2647

I can only tell you how mine ended up in the very same situation as youve described. I was late for my speeding ticket because I was going to fight it in court. My court time was AM I thought it was the PM session. When I went to pay, after finding out I had missed my court date, the lady at the pay window smiled and said they had already sent it across the street and I could go over to to the local police station and take care of it o walked over completely expecting to just pay the ticket and walk away. This is what happened:
    1. Walked over to pay.
    2. They asked me for ID
    3. Told me to wait in the chairs against the wallÔǪ I noticed they had handcuffs attached to them. ƒæÇ
    4. Soon I was asked to come behind a wall. I quickly realized I was about to have my fingerprints taken.
    5. After finger prints the had me stand on a line for a
    mug shot!!!
So.. not only did I get booked with a suspended sentence, the fine went from $110 to $220.
I was horrified and pissed off but it was all my own doing I brought it on myself by being a smartass young punk thinking I was going to beat that speeding ticket. There was no way I was going to win and just made it so much worse for myself. I never got out in handcuffs thats the bright spot here.

All you have to do is find out who took the warrant and go down and take care of it. It will go so much better with you walking in to take care of it. So much better than if they pull you over and then take you in. Do not take your child with you, it may be an all day thing depending on their policies. Hopefully it will be eezy peezy.
