AI Legalese Decoder: Empowering You to Navigate Property Tax Assessments and Appeals

Introduction

Property tax assessments play a crucial role in determining the amount of taxes homeowners are obligated to pay. However, assessing authorities can sometimes make errors, resulting in inflated assessments. If you find yourself in a similar situation, where your property tax assessment has unexpectedly surged by $300,000, you might be contemplating whether it’s worth appealing to lower the assessment. In this article, we will explore the value of appealing your property tax assessment and explain how AI Legalese Decoder can assist you throughout the process.

The Need for Property Tax Appeals

Having received a property tax assessment that aligns closely with your zestimate, you may question the feasibility of appealing this assessment. Skepticism is understandable considering the effort and resources required to pursue an appeal. However, appealing your property tax assessment can be a prudent decision for several reasons.

By appealing, you can present evidence to argue that the assessment exceeds the actual value – potentially leading to a significant reduction in your tax burden.

If your house is worth what it is assessed as . No. The appeals board is often made up of the most successful retired real estate professionals in your area, you cant pull the wool over their eyes.

They will make it so hard for you now before it was so easy. You just show up on your court date and they usually give you a lower rate. Now, I did it two years ago, itÔÇÖs impossible. First, they did not respond to the appeal immediately and so i have to pay the taxes already. They just ÔÇ£reimburseÔÇØ if you win. Then, they try to make me sign a waiver of some sort that i refused to sign. Basically i ignored it. But they defeated me by giving me a Monday court schedule but emailing me late Friday that apparently requiring me to submit all records two days before, which falls on a Saturday. No record, no hearing. Assessor wins.. Good luck!

Did you buy the home in the past year? Did you buy for $300k more than the previous tax value? (It was $300k tax value but you paid 600k?)

If so, they will say so did you pay $600k for it? so YOU would have to agree it has a $600k value case closed

If you think the assessment is too high, IÔÇÖd do it. The worst that could happen is you wasted some time and are back where you started.

I know two people who have done this (one in the city of Chicago in a 400Kish condo and one in the city of Detroit in a 600Kish house). Both were able to lower their assessment and therefore their taxes.

Not if itÔÇÖs close to your zestimate. Unless you burn down your garage or something, you wonÔÇÖt win your appeal.

  • Kudzupatch

If you want to appeal it what proof do you have that it is to high? You can win but you have to have facts, not just go down and say that you screwed up and this is to high.

I have seen people succeed but they most just walk in, bitch and gripe and nothing in the way of facts.
