EVICTION AND POST-EVICTION LEGAL MATTERS IN OREGON

[Renter Oregon]

I was evicted from my apartment in Oregon, and as a result, I found myself homeless. To my surprise, nine months later, I was contacted by a debt collector who claimed that I owed additional fees related to the eviction. These fees included $1,200 for repainting, $2,000 for the removal of items, $1,600 for attorney fees, $60 for not returning the key, and $800 for cleaning.

Can a landlord charge for these things after an eviction?

I’m not a landlord but if the tenant is now homeless, from the comments I’ve seen in similar posts, I think most here wouldn’t bother to pursue it.

The reasoning being that you’ll be adding $1600 in attorney’s fees to what you’re already out of pocket and you’re unlikely to ever collect.

    YMMV
