HOW THE BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRATION’S BLACK SMALL BUSINESS BOOM IS BEING HIGHLIGHTED BY ADMINISTRATOR GUZMAN

On February 16, 2024, the Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Isabel Casillas Guzman, visited four Black-owned small businesses in Washington, D.C. to showcase how President BidenÔÇÖs Investing in America agenda is positively impacting Black entrepreneurs. This is part of the administration’s effort to support small business owners and empower them with the resources they need to thrive.

During her visits, Administrator Guzman met with business owners and community leaders to understand their approaches to conducting business and the impact they are making on their communities. For instance, she learned about Angel Gregario’s community-focused approach at Black + Forth and Spice Suite, where initiatives are in place to provide free classes on various topics beneficial to the community. At BenÔÇÖs Chili Bowl, a historic Black-owned business, Administrator Guzman had a conversation with Virginia Ali about her family’s entrepreneurial journey during a turbulent period in American history. The Administrator also visited Here’s the Scoop!, a Black woman-owned ice cream and dessert shop, and discussed Karin Sellers’ mission to bring the community together one treat at a time.

The Biden-Harris Administration has taken significant steps to support Black business ownership, resulting in its fastest growth rate in more than three decades, and more than doubling the rate of Black households that own a business. In the last three years, the SBA has prioritized equity and has delivered $1.5 billion in capital to Black entrepreneurs in Fiscal Year 2023 alone, signifying a significant increase since President Biden took office.
