Title: Financial Planning for Maternity Leave: Budgeting and Savings Plan

Introduction
As the time for maternity leave approaches, I have been diligently saving up for the time off. Currently, I have managed to save £2,909 out of the £9,550 goal. In order to achieve this financial target, I have developed a savings plan and have some questions about the best course of action.

Savings Plan
My plan is to contribute £1,500 from a bonus next month, followed by monthly savings of £700-£900 in January and February. In the subsequent months leading up to June, I plan to set aside £1,000 per month. However, once July arrives, I will have to reduce my savings due to a decrease in income to statutory maternity pay.

Budget Allocation
It is also important to note that a significant portion of my budget is allocated to debt repayments, totaling £5,500 overall. The fixed nature of these payments results in an average monthly contribution of £300.

Seeking Advice
In light of my financial situation, I find myself at a crossroads. I am considering whether to utilize my cash savings to pay off my debt or to potentially take out a loan to supplement my income during maternity leave. I am also deliberating on the option of continuing to save as much as possible and relying solely on my savings during this period.

It doesnÔÇÖt really make sense this late on to pay off one debt only to need to get another one immediately to cover day to day living expenses.

The only way this could be sensible is if you are paying off high interest debt and the loan could be got at low interest.

It sounds like you need to go back to basics with budgeting as well – itÔÇÖs odd that you have so much debt still and no savings, when you clearly have so much spare money month to month to save now.

You need to do three budgets as your income and expenses will be different each time:

    One for now
    One for maternity leave
One for once youÔÇÖve finished maternity leave and youÔÇÖre back at work

Can you cut down on expenses any more, or increase your income, to tackle the debt as well as savings?
