Hello,

My situation is as follows: In April, I arrived in Japan on an engineer’s work visa that is valid for three years. In October, I changed jobs from company A to company B within the same field/domain. However, I also signed a contract with company A to continue working a few hours per week because the project I was involved in is not yet completed, and not many individuals are capable of taking over those tasks. As a result, I am effectively working a full-time job at company B while also working part-time at company A. Both positions fall under the authorized work activities specified in my visa, and company B is aware of and permits my part-time work with company A.

I have already informed the Ministry of Justice Immigration Services Agency (MOJ ISA) website/electronic notification system about the termination of my work contract with company A and the commencement of my new contract with company B. However, I believe that I will need to file a tax return for the income earned from my part-time job with company A.

Now, my question is: Do I need to notify immigration about my part-time job, and if so, how can I do it?

I have searched extensively online, but most of the information I encountered pertains to seeking permission for part-time jobs that fall outside the designated activities authorized by the visa. This is not the case for me. Additionally, on the MOJ ISA website, when notifying about a new contract, it requires specifying the institution from which I resigned. However, this does not apply in my situation as the part-time contract is an additional agreement.

If the part-time job falls under the guidelines of your current SOR, you do not need to inform immigration of it.

    > how can I notify the part-time job to immigration, and do I even need to?

Yes, you are supposed to notify the ISA of any new ongoing work contracts. The ISA’s instructions regarding how to notify them are [here](https://www.moj.go.jp/isa/applications/procedures/nyuukokukanri10_00015.html).

    > to notify a new contract, you have to specify the institution from which you resigned

That’s not the case. There are four different forms relating to notifications regarding a visa-holder’s work contract (see the linked page above). One of the forms (Õ▒èÕç║µø©ÕÅéÞÇ⵺ÿÕ╝Å´╝æÒü«´╝ù) applies to a situation where you want to notify the ISA of the end of one contract and the start of another contract simultaneously. But there is a different form (Õ▒èÕç║µø©ÕÅéÞÇ⵺ÿÕ╝Å´╝æÒü«´╝ò) that can be used to notify the ISA of the start of a new contract alone.
