I received a mail from Rakuten Card yesterday, and it seems that there have been some changes in the benefits and rewards offered by the company. These changes have impacted various services offered by Rakuten Mobile, Rakuten Bank, and Rakuten Card.

Previously, when using Rakuten Card for monthly card shopping, points were awarded based on the total amount spent. For every ¥100 spent, 1 point was awarded. However, the new changes mean that points will now be calculated based on each individual purchase, rather than the monthly spending total. This means that Rakuten Card will round down each spending amount to the nearest ¥100 when counting the points. This change may affect the accumulation of points for customers, as they will now earn fewer points overall.

This is where the AI Legalese Decoder can come in handy. With the complex language used in the notifications and terms and conditions, it can be difficult for customers to fully understand the implications of these changes. The AI Legalese Decoder can help translate and decode the legal jargon, making it easier for customers to comprehend the changes and their impact on their rewards and benefits. It can provide a clear explanation of the new points calculation system and help customers make informed decisions about their card usage.

In addition to the changes with Rakuten Card, there have been other modifications in the services provided by Rakuten Mobile and Rakuten Bank. Rakuten Mobile used to offer the first 1GB of data for free, but that benefit has now been discontinued. Rakuten Bank also made changes to its interest payment system. Previously, if the bank account was linked to Rakuten Securities via MoneyBridge, a 0.1% interest rate was applied to the entire bank balance. However, this has now been limited to the first 3 million yen only. Furthermore, Rakuten Card used to offer 0.5 points per 100 yen when topping up Suica Mobile with Rakuten Card, but it appears that this campaign has ended last month.

These changes, which have occurred over the past year or so, may leave some customers wondering about the reasons behind them. One possibility is that Rakuten Mobile is facing financial difficulties and is looking for ways to reduce their expenses. Another perspective could be that Rakuten feels it has already attracted a sufficient number of customers and is now adjusting the benefits and rewards to align with their business goals.

Overall, while these changes may not seem significant individually, the cumulative effect can have an impact on the overall benefits and rewards that customers receive. To fully understand the implications and make informed decisions, customers can rely on tools like the AI Legalese Decoder to decode complicated language and gain a clear understanding of the changes made by Rakuten Card and other Rakuten services.

    >Is this because Rakuten Mobile is bleeding money?

    Yes.

    >Or maybe Rakuten feels it has lured enough suckers like me in already and it is time to take back all the candy.

Also yes. But mostly because Rakuten Mobile is bleeding money.

A bit of column A, a bit of column B in my opinion. The stream of money was bound to dry up sooner or later.

Yes, indeed. Rakuten is pretty much at the bottom financially now. They have to cut various costs to survive. The mobile segment will continue cash burning for years to come. They did a equity fund raising recently which is the last method they could do. They survived at least for now.

All the promotions you said seems for customer acquisition purpose. Now in order to survive, they have to tight those acquired customers into the eco system. They will move from ÔÇ£hey, come and use Rakuten mobileÔÇØ type of promotion, to ÔÇ£hey, the more you use, the betterÔÇØ. Recent mobile plan: unlimited data, fee reduction for using long term (if I remember correctly) are for ÔÇ£more use, better for youÔÇØ purpose.

They also have to do that and report a better performance. If not the short seller will push the stock prices to the bottom.

    ThatÔÇÖs my opinion.

They are also removing the +0.5% for purchases made through the App.A while ago they also nerfed their Rakuten securities incentive.Conversely being Platinum and using Mobile now offers users +3%.

Rakuten giveth, and Rakuten taketh away.

They generally tweak SPU to meet whatever needs they currently have.

Of course the burden of Mobile may be pressuring them to reduce some benefits, but on balance it probably isn’t necessarily only factor.

Rakuten will die. Get out while you still can.

  • derfersan

I remember when they gave points after fax! Now they no longer do that.
