Normally, I would say “of course not” because she’s not getting an abortion in Alabama, however, in the current political climate, one cannot trust an opportunistic politician not to fly in off the top rope.

It will depend on how much she trusts her doctor. If she isn’t sure, she should contact an organization such as the ACLU or Planned Parenthood, who can probably give specific legal advice, referrals, and might be willing to help with legal defense.

R/abortion might be able to answer this.

I believe if she had a medical abortion there isn’t a way to tell the difference between that and a miscarriage unless she inserted the pills vaginally.

You can contact the West Alabama WomenÔÇÖs Centre

    https://alreprohealth.com/

    Or The Alabama WomenÔÇÖs Centre.

    https://www.alabamawomensclinic.com/

They have a long history of fighting for womenÔÇÖs reproductive rights and providing reproductive care. While they can no longer perform abortions due to Dobbs and AlabamaÔÇÖs laws, they do provide reproductive support and aftercare.

If the person you know cannot get to see them due to geographical location (not sure where they are in relation to you in Alabama) she can still call them for support and they should be able to connect her with other services closer to her.

ETA: These are people highly experienced in the fears women face about even discussing abortion since the Dobbs ruling, especially in places such as Alabama. They understand the personal, the professional and the legal situation and are *on her side*. They will hear her, support her and help her and they will do so to the absolute best of their ability.

Not a lawyer, but some healthcare experience. Given the current political climate and if your friend is afraid of legal consequences your friend could omit that when giving her medical history unless it is specifically relevant to her visit. If it is relevant, perhaps she didnÔÇÖt have an abortion? Maybe she had a miscarriage and when she went to the ED they sent her to OB where they did some procedure. Perhaps it was all a very emotional time, she was medicated, and she canÔÇÖt remember all of the details well.

She cannot be prosecuted for traveling out of state to have an abortion from Alabama.

If she is concerned, she can also contact the out of state facility she had the procedure at for legal and/or medical advice.

Not your lawyer. Not giving legal advice. I donÔÇÖt think she needs to be concerned. First, she cannot be prosecuted for a lawful abortion in a lawful state. The Full Faith and Credit Clause requires that Alabama respect the laws of SC even if it doesnÔÇÖt agree with them. More importantly, her doctor is bound by statutory privilege and HIPAA laws to maintain confidentiality of this information. He canÔÇÖt report it without losing his license.

Also check into telehealth if possible. Maybe doing a zoom with a doctor in SC is ok? I’m not sure the people in charge are a holes who like to manipulate all these laws to their benefit. Wishing her the best. Taking care of yourself should never be this much work or include having to worry about legal ramifications

Depending on what the problems sheÔÇÖs having are, she could also contact the M & A hotline. https://mahotline.org/
