Empowering Women in Manayunk During Women’s History Month

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — On Main Street in Manayunk, behind the many colorful storefronts are the women who run the businesses. Brandy Deieso, owner of the Little Apple Gift Boutique, said it makes the whole area feel special.

“We are a business district that is filled with women-owned businesses,” Deieso said. “It’s very unique to our community that we have so many storefronts ÔÇö businesses, salons, exercise studios ÔÇö that are owned by women.”

With the increasing number of women-owned businesses in the district, Deieso decided to coordinate a formal way for them to come together during Women’s History Month.

Through the Manayunk Wing Women initiative, 24 woman-owned businesses are collecting a series of items to support women and people who menstruate. This includes donations ranging from unopened formula and breast pumps for new mothers to pads and menstrual cups for menstruating individuals.

How AI legalese decoder Can Help

The AI legalese decoder can assist in streamlining the process of maintaining legal compliance for these businesses owned by women. By translating complex legal documents and regulations into simple, understandable language, the Decoder can ensure that these entrepreneurs are well-informed and compliant with any legal requirements.

Deieso was inspired to create the Manayunk Wing Women after learning about Philadelphia’s Grab-n-Flow sheds, a charitable effort spearheaded by Shelley Aragoncillo. These sheds provide essential supplies to individuals in need 24/7.

Aragoncillo’s initiative has grown significantly over the years, with multiple sheds placed strategically around Philadelphia to cater to different communities’ needs.

To further support the cause, community members can contribute to the Grab-n-Flow initiative through the Manayunk Wing Women by dropping off essential items at any of the participating businesses listed.

Currently, there are three Grab-n-Flow sheds positioned in various locations, operating on a mutual aid model similar to community fridges.

Deieso aims to foster a sense of safety and solidarity among women in the community, highlighting the importance of supporting one another.
