# Dealing with a Timeshare Inheritance Dilemma

My uncle passed away about 1.5 years ago, leaving behind a timeshare in a popular skiing destination in BC. His daughter, who is handling his estate, offered the timeshare to all beneficiaries for free, but nobody accepted it.

The timeshare is set to expire in 2042, and according to my cousin, the inability to sell or dispose of it is now delaying the settlement of the estate until 2042 or until the property is sold.

## How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help

With the help of AI Legalese Decoder, we can navigate the legal complexities of the timeshare contract and explore options for resolving the situation. The platform can analyze the terms of the timeshare agreement and provide guidance on potential avenues for forcing a sale, even if it’s for a nominal amount like $1.00. Additionally, AI Legalese Decoder can assist in understanding the implications of the deed on the timeshare and how to handle the advice from the estate lawyer regarding not paying fees in order to potentially end the obligation after six years.

Is there a way to initiate a majority vote among the remaining beneficiaries to compel the sale of the timeshare? Alternatively, are there other legal strategies to terminate the timeshare contract now that the original purchasers are deceased? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance.

## Additional Information

Further details have come to light, indicating the presence of a deed on the timeshare property. The estate lawyer’s suggestion not to pay fees and wait for them to cease after six years raises further questions about the best course of action in handling the timeshare obligation.

Talk to an estate lawyer. From what I’ve read online, it should be possible for the estate to renunciate ownership of the timeshare.

Alternatively, advertise it in the free section of Craigslist and see if you can find someone who wants it…

My parents had a timeshare in the heart of Whistler village that took years and years to get rid of fyi, they only got lucky as there was a one time offering from the timeshare itself to take it back for free.

Given the fixed ending date on the fees though perhaps something could be held back I wonder as a worst case as opposed to waiting all that time?

I wonder if you could donate it? I can’t imagine what organization might want it, but maybe it’s an option?

Could you sell it? Is there a market for timeshares?

Could you let me know when this thing does go up for sale? I would pour what little I have into getting something like this. Canadian prairie kid, used to go to Fernie and Panorama annually as a kid.

Look at the maintenance fees for timeshares, they are usually liabilities and are less than worthless. Whole industries have sprung up trying to get people out of shitty timeshares. And those industries often fail/rip people off more.

Watch this and beware the mine field. It’s likely best if you tell the timeshare company that ‘you can’t inherit a debt’ and go fuck yourself.

    > the estate now can not be settled until 2042, or until it is sold.

So the estate sells the asset. However, it must be the fair market price or the executor isn’t doing their job. Now a TS in Whistler is worth surprisingly little. However, a spatial or temporal TS neighbour may want it.
