Title: Car Hit-and-Run Incident: Seeking Resolution with Ambulance Service and Insurer

Introduction:

In this situation, I have captured CCTV footage of my parked car being rear-ended by an ambulance that was not using emergency lights. However, the ambulance left the scene without stopping, which I believe constitutes a hit-and-run incident. I contacted the police, who informed me that this may not apply to ambulances. Unfortunately, the CCTV footage does not capture the ambulance’s registration number, making it difficult to identify the responsible party. This predicament has led to a frustrating back and forth between the ambulance service, their insurer, and my own insurance company, with each party redirecting me to the other. Resolving this matter has proven challenging due to the insurer’s refusal to provide the driver’s details until the ambulance service accepts liability, and the ambulance service claiming data protection as a reason for not disclosing the driver or registration details. Consequently, my insurer is unable to take any action without the vehicle’s registration number. This predicament leaves me wondering about the appropriate course of action.

To resolve this situation and seek appropriate compensation for the damages of my car, I need a clear plan of action. Firstly, I will document all the conversations, emails, and correspondence I have had with both the ambulance service and their insurer, as well as my own insurance company. This documentation will serve as evidence of my efforts to resolve the matter amicably.

Next, I will focus on engaging with the ambulance service directly, emphasizing the importance of their cooperation in finding a resolution. By utilizing the services of the AI Legalese Decoder, I can craft well-informed and persuasive messages addressing their concerns about data protection. The tool can help me articulate the importance of obtaining the driver’s name and registration details for a fair and efficient resolution. Furthermore, the AI Legalese Decoder can assist in interpreting the relevant legal provisions and regulations that might be applicable in this scenario, showcasing my understanding of the legal framework and reinforcing the credibility of my argument.

Simultaneously, I will maintain open communication with my own insurance company, providing them with regular updates on my progress and highlighting the challenges experienced in obtaining the ambulance’s registration number. By keeping my insurer informed, they can better understand the roadblocks I am facing and potentially devise alternative approaches to move the case forward.

Finally, I will consider seeking legal advice from an attorney specializing in motor vehicle accidents who can review the evidence and provide guidance on the best course of action. The insights gained from using the AI Legalese Decoder will strengthen my ability to communicate effectively with the attorney and follow any legal advice or suggestions they may provide.

YouÔÇÖve had some poor advice from your local police force.

You have CCTV evidence of a fail to stop / fail to report road traffic collision and the onus is on the driver of the ambulance to make sure thatÔÇÖs reported properly. I understand it will be an ambulance service issue rather than an individual driver giving their personal details but IÔÇÖd have expected more from them at the scene. At the very least reasonable attempts to locate the owner of the vehicle should have been made and failing that a note with some form of reference number and contact information should have been left on your car.

I am unaware of any exemptions for emergency services vehicles – and I am a part of that sector.

Personally, we all pay high insurance premiums for the insurers to sort this kind of thing out and IÔÇÖd be looking to your insurer to pick this up and make contact with the relevant ambulance service to recover their costs.

It shouldnÔÇÖt be for you to chase all of those involved and if you still get push back start complaining formally – IÔÇÖd start with the police service, the ambulance trust and your insurance company if you make no progress.

So ex ambulance here ( still have blue light license)
The police advice is absolute bullshit.

Even if on bluelight we are required to stop ( morals and ethics out the window). Even if we are in a certain distance of an accident in which bluelights can be considered a factor we have to stoo
They should have reported the incident immediately with accident forms etc, if they havnt it may be that they havnt done this.

If they were not on bluelights it may be they were not bluelight trained ( massive shortage of instructors and a load of politics) i would go back to the police and report as failing to stop especially if this little to know evidence of them being allocated on a job /patient.

Does your cctv not give the reg? Or look for the call sign ( often on the back doors, above windscreen, on top of the vehicle and on the rear of the sides (generally just medial to the blue lights).

    Good luck

Go back to your insurance. You know which organisation owns the vehicle responsible. Tell them that the ambulance service are refusing to cooperate and could they please contact them on your behalf. This is what you pay them for.

My car was hit by a retail delivery vehicle whilst parked, and although I had a note admitting liability left on my vehicle, the company would not share the registration plate or driver details with me. I told my insurance this and they chased it up and got the details (albeit with a delay because it was a Friday evening and the company office had shut).

Push the trust. They don’t necessarily need to provide you with the drivers details but they must provide details sufficient for the insurance company such as the certificate of insurance for the vehicle. The insurance will not be in the driver’s name. If the police choose to charge the driver for criminal element of a hit and run is on them and not something you should get too heavily involved with, other than making your views as the victim known. Ambulances do have certain exemptions from the road traffic act but this is not one of them

  • PhatNick

The main problem is with your insurers. You have correctly reported the collision and passed them sufficient cctv information for them to pursue the claim with the ambulance service. They need to find the rest of the information, not you.

The ambulance service are also dragging their heels and in danger of making a simple error in to a big deal.

  • notmanipulated

If the ambulance was for your neighbour and you have the time of the incident, that will be enough for the ambulance service to find out what vehicle was involved. All movements patient journeys are logged, so I can’t see why the service is being obstructive. Contact them again with the time, neighbours name & address.

  • Lucilda1125

Can’t you sue for damages instead of going through the insurance route?

  • Bald_Burrito

Ambulances tend to have their call sign printed on the side of the vehicle, high up. It can be 3 or 4 numbers/letters. They are unique to each ambulance which may help to identify it without a reg.

You may also need to identify if it is an NHS TrustÔÇØ ambulance such as EEAST, SCAS, SECAMV, EMAS, YAS or if it was a private ambulance.

  • Basso_69

That the ambulance was attending your neighbour os hpful, as the ambulance driver canary be ident.

But you will have to ask your insurer service. Let the ambiance contact person know that you will be providing their details to your insurer, and that should they ask you to, you will contact the police to report the failure to stop.

I suspect they will welcome a call from your insurer, rather than have both the insurer and the puce chasing them.

  • LeafyLustere

Ask neighbours if they have any cctv of the licence plate
