Taylor La, a VT alum, joins us in the studio to share his experiences. Good morning, Taylor! What an incredible responsibility you had during the Olympics.
Indeed, Kimberly, good morning to you! Red, white, and blue were prominent colors throughout Paris in the past few weeks, but if you looked closely, Virginia Tech’s colors were also represented. The atmosphere at Team USA house for the fans, Olympians, families, and friends was truly magical. James Morrison, a VT graduate, just got back to the US after spending three weeks in Paris as the DJ for Team USA house, where fans gathered to support the US teams during the games. Without my time at Virginia Tech, there’s no way I would have ended up in Paris at Team USA house for the Olympics.
Morrison, who is entering his 11th season as the Virginia Tech Athletics DJ, was asked the big question: did he play “Enter Sandman”? He enthusiastically confirmed that he did, recalling special moments like Katie Ledecky’s swimming victory and the US team’s other triumphs. The energy and spirit at Team USA house were reminiscent of a Virginia Tech home game at Lane Stadium, where victories are celebrated with passion.
The US teams returned home with a total of 126 medals, 40 of them gold. Morrison, however, came back to Virginia with gold in his heart after proposing to his girlfriend in front of the Eiffel Tower with the Olympic rings in the background. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable experience in Paris. Congratulations to Morrison and his fiance!
Now, Morrison is excited to be back at Lane Stadium for the upcoming football season, which kicks off in just a few weeks. Bringing the hokey spirit to Paris and cheering on Team USA was an extraordinary experience for him.
