Among women (65%) and Democrats, regardless of gender (76%), there was a strong belief that there are too few women in leadership positions. The majority of these respondents (79%) expressed the ideal scenario as equal representation of women and men in these roles, while 10% advocated for more women than men, and another 10% suggested having more women but not in equal numbers as men.
Democrats were more likely than Republicans to view multiple factors as major obstacles for women in top leadership positions in business.
However, gender outweighed political affiliation when respondents were asked about their views on the reasons for the limited presence of women in top executive roles.
Pew stated, “Republican and Democratic women are more likely than their male counterparts to say there are too few women in top business leadership positions and to point to certain factors as major obstacles for women.”
