Title: Seeking New Opportunities: How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help Improve Your Career Prospects

Introduction:
Six months ago, I made the decision to join a nonprofit organization to be closer to my family and improve my mental health, as it was severely affected. However, while I was aware of the salary prior to joining, I recently discovered that my raise is only a mere 2%, amounting to a disappointing $640 annual increase. In light of inflation rates, this raise feels insulting, leaving me feeling frustrated about my current situation. As someone with a master’s degree in human development and family science and four years of experience supporting patients and families in high-stress environments, such as a pediatric emergency room, I now work for a non-profit focused on preventing child abuse in our community. To supplement my income, I have been babysitting as much as possible. As a former nonprofit worker I feel for you. ItÔÇÖs horrible and demoralizing, but itÔÇÖs par for the course across the industry. Do you want to stay in the social sector? Salary is highly unlikely to improve over time and even that 2% after 6 months feels generous to my jaded former nonprofit heart. Some people get meaning out of a job and that offsets the poor salary. For me, I woke up one day and realized I could never afford a home or retirement on my career path.

If you want to stay in nonprofits I would recommend looking into fundraising or development roles because many orgs give bonuses based on goals achieved.

If you want to leave, itÔÇÖs generally easier to stay within your industry, so if youÔÇÖve worked in health-related orgs then a job with an insurance company, regional healthcare provider or pharma is likely to be your easiest jump. There are also jobs at these companies in community engagement or CSR, if you want to marry that nonprofit angle (though competition can be high for them).

My tip is to look up companies with strong employee satisfaction survey results. Make a list of specific companies that score well and are in your related field, and then look at their current openings.

Wishing you a lot of luck!

What kind of benefits do they offer? What about health insurance? Retirement? PTO?

What I’m getting at is, if they’re going to give you pay and raises like a state employee, they should be giving you benefits like a state employee to offset that.

    Edit: am a state employee

I would try to stay away from nonprofits if you want to increase your pay. Non profits tend to suck unless you’re in management at a larger non profit. Look for federal government work in your field if you can.

If youÔÇÖre not happy with the raise, ask for more and/or start applying for new jobs.

Look into roles in customer success or internal training roles at tech companies. Also look into HR roles as they pay well and have good WLB.

Consulting? Big 4s are hiring and itÔÇÖs mostly WFH.

IÔÇÖm in corporate America and we have been getting 2% for years. They try to fool us by putting a lot of emphasis on the profit sharing program. We are treated well in terms of the culture and my other benefits are good so IÔÇÖm hoping to retire from the company in a few years.

I mean, if you went to a place that doesn’t pay well it would stand to reason they wouldn’t be great with raises either.

I’d look for better playing jobs in the area, but I wouldn’t be too pressed about your raise. You knew you were getting paid below your worth when you took the position, if you want your pay to match the value you can provide you’d be better served by looking for a job that can/will do that.
