For some reason, petrol last weekend was like 15c more expensive in Wyndham than it was in Mount Macedon.
Maybe start at the fundamentals.
I am a big supporter of banning the Government’s usage of the word free, forcing them to use Taxpayer Funded.
Maybe voters would then appreciate that their choices have consequences.
Kind of surprised Victoria would be harder hit than NSW given the cost of housing.
I’m a renter in Melbourne, I don’t see what the state government could possibly do to help beyond fund public housing.
Why would Daniel Andrews do this?
Labour govt helping tho yeah?
/s
The cost of government is huge.
There must be a lot of waste because we don’t really get that much in services when you consider that we pay more for State government than in rent.
(Yes that’s true, I did the math, it’s more than $15k a year per capita)
Sure there is health and education but we pay more on the ‘Public Safety’ for the state than on energy bills and the police never show up when you need them because they always ‘lack resources’.
Add on top of that the cost of local council which are also costly whilst not providing value to residents because many have reduced picking up the rubbish.
Also TAC seems to be way too expensive for what it is.
Just a lot of taxes that are hidden so nobody bothers to ask. But there is a lot of bloat, probably in unnecessary but entrenched costs that nobody bothers to question. And it does get funded one way or another by everyone so it does cost everyone.
The way to think about it is that, in the end everyone is working 6 months out of every year to fund the government, do we get back that much in services?
Victoria is bankrupt
Broke state, broke residents with cash to bid 500k over the range for a property.
Lockdown hangover
For goodness sake, this figure was extrapolated from a self reported survey of about 1000 people.
Ā Journalists love twisting statistics. Here’s a little bit more info about how they ‘calculated’ their results…
Ā “The Suicide Prevention Australia Community Tracker is undertaken in partnership with YouGov Australia. Total sample size was 1063 adults. The survey was undertaken online between 5th – 7th February 2024. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all Australian adults (aged 18+).”
It’s all part of the plan…

Thanks Dan.
Andrewās incompetence casts a long and miserable shadow.
Just been travelling from NSW, through rural and regional Vic and SA.
This seems like a load of crap. One thing I would like to praise Vic for is their sense of community and community infrastructure.
I have a feeling the Age has an agenda to push here. Victorians should be proud of their state & their communities.
Thanks Dan.
Now is the time for Darwin’s natural selection
Victoria. Highest State taxes, highest levels of of financial distress. Go figure.
But whoever you do, it’s not the Governments fault.
The Taylor Swift effect.
Thanks Dan the d*ickhead.
Lol keep voting for clowns like Dan Andrews lol u get what u deserve. š¤£
Idiot politicians are only elected by dumb barely cognitive mouth breathers now … let the suffering begin!
Couldn’t have happened to a more terrible state

Anyone else expecting rates to be cut in the next quarter? Also wouldn’t be surprised if they roped in more people into comfy WFH jobs to keep the system propped up.
Thank Ćine I donāt live in VIC
