If you are not paid at 100% you are not rated at 100% by the VA.

  • Illustrious_Turn_210

I read it as your PTSD is 100% connected to your service (doesn’t come from anything else). Not that you are rated at 100%

  • JKupkakes

How do you do get a dog if your 100%

  • sleepinglucid

Nah she made a mistake, the ratings change would not show up for her until we authorize it and by that time you’d know

  • Waveyhs

Esd literally anyone can go get and it gets abused by civilians without paperwork, no need to worry. If you need a trained dog to perform a service specific to treatment of ptsd then you’d want a psychiatric service dog. Psd > Esd https://www.servicedogtrainingschool.org/blog/psychiatric-service-dog-vs-emotional-support-animal

  • Dear_Pie2408

It reads like she is saying, “if your disability ratings form shows 100% service-connected for PTSD, then you should be able to get an ESD without a letter from her but she will write you a letter if you want”.

I don’t think your psychiatrist would have any idea of your rating.

  • Cranky_hacker

I wanted an ESD. I wound up getting a lab mix from SPCA. I then spent several hours per day (seriously) for about a year training that dog. I thought that I would lose my mind.

Being the “adult” of a dog is no small matter. It’s a metric F-TON of responsibility. It limits your ability to exercise (unless you can run). You need to feed your dog, take it on walks, and you also need to let it out for bathroom breaks.

Several years in… I have a WONDERFUL DOG. He knows all of the AKC commands. He has astounding recall, won’t exit a vehicle/house without permission, and will even ignore treats/food/etc until given permission. It’s not a control thing — it’s keeping your dog from getting killed by a car or eating something dangerous (e.g, grapes, fake sugars, etc — because those things can and will kill a dog (esp xylitol)).

Would I get a dog again? F’K NO. I really care for and about my dog… but it is A LOT. Just understand what you’re signing up for — and it’s a 12-20yr commitment. A single vet visit can cost thousands (if something bad is afoot).

I believe that everyone should try fostering a dog for a while — just to be sure that you understand what you’re getting into. If you can handle a few foster dogs for a few months? Yeah, go for it. The number of people that surrender their dogs after, say, 6-12 months… it’s sad. I don’t often judge people… but I don’t want to know THOSE people.

A dog is a MASSIVE responsibility. It’s like having a special needs kid. They don’t “get” that you need to work. You’re their whole world… and they want to spend time with their bestie. Just be sure that you’re ready. Please and thank you.

Just a piece of advice. Do not get an emotional support animal, get a service dog.

There is a big difference between a esa, and a service animal. A service animal has way more rights.

So when they put that in the letter, make sure it is a service dog.

You can get one donated to you, you can buy one, or you can get a puppy and train it.

I have been training my puppy pretty well and it’s probably better than most of them.

The place I was going to get a service dog declined me because I had horses

  • nubsrpro

ESD aren’t service dogs. You don’t need to be 100% to get a service dog either you just need specific conditions that benefit from having one if I’m not mistaken

  • Creative_Major2266

My psych called me 100% and I wasn’t at the time. They assume things.

  • Ok_Fan4789

Regardless of what rating you get from your PTSD, if it is not 100%, use the communication she sent you to appeal it!

  • BreakfastOk4991

They made a mistake it seems.

  • Zone0ne

I’m at 100% and I’d love an ESD if possible. I was looking into one company but they asked more questions than the VA did during my C&P exam so I backed out.

  • Nestormahkno19d

No it says your paperwork says you are 100% Service Connected for PTSD, SC is VA speak for that. Either you just got an increase and haven’t gotten your retro check or you need to calL VBA

  • Adorable_Expert_9749

To the best of luck to you devil dog! Let’s hope your symptoms match the DBQ I would also maybe mention that to your examining person too?

  • Own_Advice4246

How did you go about getting a psychiatrist? I don’t know where to start in regards to getting my dog registered as an ESD. Thanks for the help in the advance brother. Hope you get that 100 you deserve!

  • Mindless_Material576

I actually found out from one of my docs emails that I was 100% before my rating showed up on the VA website. I was reading on my DBQ that I am rated at 100%, I didn’t believe it until the next day that showed up on the VA website

  • PsychologicalPay2087

I feel like he saying he personally wrote up for it maybe not that you got it though

  • Tiny-Consequence1248

Is your dog going to be 100% PTSD too? What a hell of a time when you both wake up with nightmares. JK making light of the situation. I hope you get 100% also this sub has tons of resources and amazing people who have helped out. You are never alone bother

  • AlarmedSnek

A good friend of mine got out of the Navy with 70% and had an ESD, you don’t need to be at 100.

  • Significant_Tie_3994

I’m, not sure they know what they’re doing, I got a ESA letter (cat) while I was still fighting to get any rating whatsoever

  • Ispithotfireson

No, rater would be the one in the decision.

  • Pastoseco

I’m 70% for PTSD. So like either he means you’re 100% for PTSD or he’s saying that your PTSD is fully connected to your service. Either way, weird way to say it

  • CavScout44

    sounds like she did!

  • National_Work_Queue

Anyone know if ESD is covered by the foreign medical program…

  • Foreign_Pay1348

Im 100% and have a husky. How can I get her to become a service dog? Please help out a battle buddy here

  • Big29er

Check ebenefits. That usually updates right away.
