## The Situation with My Relationship with a Registered Sex Offender

I was in a relationship with a Registered Sex Offender (RSO) for almost two years, trying my best to be supportive and help them move forward. I was not aware of their status as an RSO until months into the relationship, and even willingly invited them to stay in my home when their mother suddenly left the state without informing them. However, as time went on, I began to notice signs of manipulation, mood swings, lack of accountability, paranoia, and disrespect from my partner.

### Concerns and Signs of Trouble

The situation escalated as my partner became convinced that others were trying to harm him, leading to him rummaging through my personal belongings and even hacking into my computers to access personal information. Despite my attempts to give him the benefit of the doubt, he eventually realized the severity of his actions and fled out of state while on bail, leaving me to deal with the aftermath of his actions.

That sounds like schizophrenia, another mental illness with paranoid delusions, or a serious drug addiction.

If there’s a option to get mental healthcare (even if it means involuntary commitment) I’d consider that. Each state has different rules, policies, laws, and options so I’m not sure what’s available where you are.

There’s a lot to unpack here though. Are you okay? Are you safe? Locks changed? Credit and debit cards canceled and reissued? Bank notified if any checks have been stolen? Account passwords changed?

Do you need to get an Order of Protection? (Those have both risks and benefits so make sure you speak to someone at the courthouse before filing one if you go that route) Have you called the police to report the damage he did?

I’m not positive what “uploaded my family identity” means – but from the sound of it you may need to contact the proper people about potential identity theft. If you have homeowners or renters insurance it’s often included in your policy as something they’ll handle for you.

Does he have a bondsman? Calling them is an option, I would make sure that you inform them that he’s dealing with paranoid delusions and maybe ask if they can let the police know this when they find him if they go that route. Because they may be able to put him in a mental health facility first instead of sending him straight to jail.

You can call the court and report that he’s fled, they can also handle it. But, again, I’d inform them of the mental illness.

There’s the very real chance he will be hurt or killed when apprehended if they’re unaware of the fact he’s suffering from paranoid delusions. If he already thinks people are out to kill him he’s most likely going to try to fight them.

Untreated mental illness is a lot of the reason people commit crimes to begin with (and that’s not an excuse for it, it’s just a fact) and there’s a minimal chance he will be treated once incarcerated if he isn’t diagnosed first.

That perpetuates a cycle of catch and release with no resolution and no chance to get better – he’ll go to prison, not get diagnosed or treated, get out and still not get diagnosed or treated, commit another crime, go back, it’s a neverending cycle.

My best friends brother was schizophrenic. I say *was* because he died at 35. They think his heart actually stopped because he was so incredibly paranoid 24/7.

I’m sharing options and ideas on what I would likely do/try if I was in your situation. But I have a bit of a soft spot for people with severe mental health issues because of my friends brother and I don’t know your full situation or this man, and you do, so do what’s best for *you* and what makes you feel safest.

Note that *any* and *all* of these options have the potential to backfire or blow up in your face. It’s *not* your responsibility to fix him or to do any of this. You can simply make the phone calls and report him and be done.

If you feel that he’s dangerous and you may be at risk, don’t make yourself a target – don’t risk your own safety. His bondsman and/or the court will eventually realize he’s absconded and deal with it.

Put yourself, your health, and your safety first. I’m sorry this is something you have to deal with.

Thank you I’m just torn because this will be the nail per se in the coffin for revoke but no one deserves this treatment and this isn’t the 1st instance or individual.

  • Total-Union8595

Yes some do deserve a second chance, but when that person is that destructive it’s best to get far away. Not recognizing the support was there to help it absurd. Definitely report before things get to far and more could be hurt. Keep doing the right thing you are the ray of light to us thank you.

I’ve rented n raved over me being appalled and disgusted but I tend to get over it as I know with legal issues he is facing a lot and once he has to appear for issue with me I don’t want to seem angry he’s gone I’m at peace I’m disgusted over the pattern and even after leaving what finds me in regards to me and my personal information and aspects of my life that he violated. Now I have to take a xtra security measures that I’ve never had to worry about.

  • Vast-Best

Nobody deserves a second chance. But if you are lucky to get one you owe it to the victims and those around you to be the best version of yourself. Anyone who doesn’t accept responsibility for their actions isn’t worthy of a second chance.

  • ba3conator

I’m sorry to hear that you were put through that. And it’s great to hear you didn’t judge him and you have him a second chance. I think you tried your best and he needs to be held accountable. Report him. Also press additional charges if you can for the hacking.
