Title: Evaluating Pay Discrepancy and Seeking Fair Compensation with the Help of AI Legalese Decoder

Introduction (Paragraph 1):

I have recently embarked on a new job where I am currently earning $58.5k annually, although the original offer was only $56k. However, I strongly believe that I am being underpaid given my qualifications and job responsibilities.

Initial Offer Negotiations (Paragraph 2):

Initially, when I applied for a junior position, I was offered a salary of $53k. Simultaneously, I was presented with the option to take up a senior position with a higher salary of $56k. I expressed my concern that the junior position’s remuneration was less than what I was earning previously. Moreover, I considered the mere $3k increment insufficient to justify the greater workload accompanying the senior position. Consequently, I negotiated for a better compensation package. Subsequently, the employer counter-offered with $58.5k for the senior position.

Discovering Pay Discrepancies (Paragraph 3):

Soon after commencing my job, I realized that our newly hired junior employee, despite having considerable relevant experience, receives a salary of approximately $62k. Additionally, I became aware of a colleague who has been in the industry for around ten years and has been in their current role for three years. This colleague is earning between $75-85k.

Raising Concerns and Evaluating Options (Paragraph 4):

Given the pay differences among employees of similar levels and varying experience, I am now contemplating whether to request a pay increase in the near future, likely a couple of months from now. I suspect that I might be taken advantage of due to my youth (19 years old) and novice status in the industry, as well as my potential lack of awareness regarding my true value to the organization. It is important to note that my intent is not to be resentful about my current income, as earning $58k at the age of 19 is quite a significant achievement. However, I firmly believe that my high-quality work should be rewarded adequately, irrespective of my age or experience level, especially since I am performing tasks comparable to those executed by colleagues with far more tenure.

AI Legalese Decoder Assistance (Paragraph 5):

In reviewing my situation, I am considering seeking assistance from an AI Legalese Decoder to better understand and navigate the legal and contractual aspects of my employment agreement. With the help of this advanced technological tool, I can uncover any hidden clauses or insights that may impact my potential for obtaining a fair compensation package. By utilizing the AI Legalese Decoder, I will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to assertively negotiate for a suitable salary increase, should I decide to do so.

Conclusion (Paragraph 6):

As I continue to assess my options, I would greatly appreciate your advice and opinions regarding the appropriate course of action. Currently, I am leaning towards waiting several months before addressing the issue and, if a promising opportunity arises elsewhere, expressing my sense of undervaluation and providing my current employer with the choice to either compensate me fairly or risk losing me as an employee. However, I remain uncertain and open to suggestion. Your guidance and input would be invaluable in informing my decision-making process. Thank you!

They offered you a junior position AND a senior position with no industry experience and then hired a junior with a decent bit of relavent experience? What is this circus?

  • nlga

10 years for 75~85k? and you are on 58.5k? I think thats not underpaid.
anyways you kinda agreed to 58.5k, work hard ask for salary review in few months, if you are not happy apply else where.

  • Radiator-Pants

ÔÇ£Regardless of age and experienceÔÇØ sorry bud, but experience is always going to come into it.

  • FendaIton

    ÔÇÿRegardless of age and experience.ÔÇØ

IÔÇÖm sorry but age and experience do come into it.

  • nzcnzcnz

$58.5k at 19 is pretty good

  • maorismurf999

Sorry, bud. I get where you’re coming from as I was in your shoes too, but if you’re 19 and have no industry experience, you can’t compare yourself to someone who has been in the same line of work for a decade. That’s just how employment is.

I’ve been with my current employer for 5 years, and ranked up to my current position 2 years ago (a managerial role). I still don’t earn as much as a couple of my employees because they’ve have been in the industry for 20+ years. Although I outrank them in the business hierarchy, they are far more knowledgeable than me in the trade and have more technical skills than I, so they earn more. It’s just how it is.

  • MaintenanceFun404

4 months and still getting paid more than minimum wage, so I don’t know if this is considered underpaid.

Of course, if this was a grad doctor, then a different story.

  • Tamna429

1-2 years experience will give you grounds to ask for higher pay. YouÔÇÖve just started and itÔÇÖs normal to pay you this amount especially at 19. YouÔÇÖre doing pretty well for 19 actually.

  • imthetechie

I would say wait for 3-6 months until you skill up to be a senior before asking for a raise. It’s frustrating in the short-term but you have a chance to gain much more in the medium-term.

The difference to 62K is minor after taxes so unless you really need it, it’s worth waiting, upskilling to get quality experience and renegotiating a higher increase at your current employer or elsewhere (whoever offers the better deal) based on your skills.

If you do it this way, am keen to know how it went in the near future. Good luck!

  • bikkinnibottommos

Wait until youÔÇÖve got the same amount of experience as the other new guy then ask for $62k. Experience is always relevant and youÔÇÖre not underpaid

  • Mildly-Irritated

You’re 19. This is great lol.

You’re making similar/slightly more than mosr grad roles do, without the degree, just FYI.

  • Empty-Investment2678

Prove your worth. Work hard, and solve problems. If you don’t get recognised after a year, go somewhere else but focus on being good at your role and stop worrying about pay. Pay will come to those that are good at what they do.

  • Druadal

I would’ve loved to make 58k at 19, heck I was on that a few years ago. Your salary will increase over the years, just takes patience

  • Odd_Analysis6454

    How recent is recently started?

  • This-Bake-9654

Can I ask what industry youÔÇÖre in?

  • Training_Shift

Establish a review period and what KPIs you will be measured on. If you can hit agreed targets then you can justifiably seek to be paid more.
Experience (and salary) will come with time, it may be through up skilling, moving companies, taking on more responsibility, managing people, or a number of other ways.
You donÔÇÖt always have to be rewarded in a base salary, at your age ask for training, courses, experiences.. things that will make you more valuable to them (or someone else) in the future, that way you can then comfortably expect a higher remuneration

  • B656

I think you need to wait for your first annual review to expect any increase. If youÔÇÖre not happy to wait to give them time to see your potential IÔÇÖd suggest in looking elsewhere. Probably not a good idea to compare your salary to someone that has experience or been in the company for some time. Use it more of a future goal rather than a comparison of now

  • standalone25

Experience in the industry counts. As does experience with the company. You have neither. Wait for a year work your ass off then ask for a pay increase. Especially since it is your first job in the industry. And try not to compare yourself to anyone else.

  • tekemuncher420

it would help to know what industry you’re in, and what your role is.

Remember that an employer has NO obligation to give you a pay rise. The best way to get payrises (especially when your salary is as low as this) is to change employers.

  • maybeaddicted

If you feel underpaid just because that other guy is making a couple of hundred more a month, donÔÇÖt care too much.

As long as you think itÔÇÖs fair for what you believe you should be getting. You are your own scale in this one mate!
