I have an excel spreadsheet that I have been using for 8 years; I do the budget every Friday. I have heard YNAB is great.
Prob super old school but I enter every dollar I spend in an excel sheet in chronological order and break the expenses down into categories. It’s super eye opening where your $$ goes.
I use an excel sheet for about 30 yrs
I switched from mint to monarch money and wish I would have switched sooner. I love monarch. Keep in mind that some budget apps work differently. YNAB and Monarch work drastically different. In my mind YNAB requires more manual input stuff than monarch. Monarch I set my budgets and then see how I stack up at the end of the month. Also allows for me to forecast spend in the future so I can plan out my cash flows.
I used YNAB for several years, until the price increase. Found Budget with Buckets (r/budgetwithbuckets) and have been using it successfully for a few years. It has an untimed free trial, no card required, so there’s a good reason to give it a try.
I like that it lives on my computer, and not the internet. I input everything manually, but I see there are ways to connect your accounts to bring in the transactions. [https://www.budgetwithbuckets.com/](https://www.budgetwithbuckets.com/)
I use Google Sheets spreadsheet and Fidelity Full View. I used to use Mint.
Also, I don’t want to pay 100$ for budgeting software.
I have a spiral budget notebook. I track every dollar, have a section for budgeted vs actual, savings trackers, etc. I tried the fancy excel sheets but my brain likes writing better.
Copilot, or Monarch would be good for that
I have an easy to use Excel sheet that I can track expenses, and it gives me remaining balances on what’s left
Get ynab and never look back. Once you learn the ropes it’s a breeze and changes your relationship with money for the better
I’m kinda embarrassed to say…. I still use MicrosoftMoney98…. I think it does what it needs to
I’m going to try r/aspirebudgeting which is a Googledoc that’s free but can also have a subscription to an app to auto fill info.
Anyone else try that?
i’ve been using YNAB for several years. I like it and I don’t mind paying for software that works well. like every single budgeting tool on the planet, it will take a while before all your budget categories are input and set up.
I also use some Google sheets for managing what I call my master budget, which is simply the list of all my budget categories and how much I want to allocate. And then mirror that into YNAB. I do this because there are times were a monthly budget category will flex up a bit and I need to increase it in YNAB but then for the next month I need to remember to reset it to my stock value. And having that in Google sheet outside of YNAB just makes that a lot easier.
I also have a couple of other Google sheets for random things. I have a simple net worth graph that I’ve been using for 25 years now I think. Every quarter I am put in my net worth and it plots out my net worth on this big ass graph , so I can see how it’s changed over the past 25 years
I use copilot. Best $99 I’ve spent all year. It connects to all my accounts including savings, CDs, investment, 401k, credit cards etc. Shows my budget spending for every month. I would highly recommend.
I use an excel spreadsheet. My aunt sent me the template when I was in my 20s and I’ve been using it ever since. Just basic income on top, expenses listed below, with a sum. Each column is a paycheck. I like that I can plan months in advance and put it in the random bills / expenses like annual insurance premium or birthdays.
